1999 Jeep Wrangler sport 4.0L 6cyl. Fuel Inj. Died going up a small hill and would not restart.

I was going up a small hill after going through a knee deep stream. After going through the water it took about 4-5 seconds of 4whl dr. operation and it just died, It'll crank (plenty of juice coming from the battery) dist.cap & rotor are dry, all plug wires connected, plenty of gas into to the injector bar. It's been three days and it still won't start.

Hook up a scanner and find the problem. Make sure that the injectors are pulsing. Water could have blown a fuse.

It can be a problem with one of the injectors. What is odd it that the ECU has not set a code for a misfire. I would have the ECU scanned even if your check engine light is not on. With a misfire the ECU should have set a code on which cylinder is missing. I would suspect one of the injectors is malfunctioning.

SOURCE: 99 jeep cherokee sport 4.0l 6cyl voltage will go to 19v

The problem sounds intermittent, if you put volt meter on the battery while it is at that 19volt mark/reading(on the gauge cluster) you will be able to see if it is true. If your alternator is really charging over 16volts the lights should be getting brighter then usual and/or they are burning out. Find out ASAP, if the alternator has a defective voltage regulator, it needs to be replaced. Prolong use will damage components.

Had same problem with my 97 sport, after changing almost all of the ignition components, it turned out to be the TPS.

Why is my jeep hesitating, going up a hill or when flooring it to pass?

nice facts, all, but no engine size options stated.
after all it's an ENGINE question.
you dont know whats there, and doing DIY> really?

one fact missing, and is key
does WOT power CATCH up
that is you move right foot fast and it bogs, we get that but what happens after the bog> ? more bog or it catches up.
if it dont catch up;, on hills, maybe fuel pressure low.
see?
at WOT there is no 02 sensors. nor TPS (enrich)
at WOT only you , then engine sucking air like mad the MAF at max voltage and if fuel pressure is low the car has endless bog.
see?

wot, = wide open throttle, use a hill to test, flat is useless .
max fuel is at max HP (max torque + max RPM both same time)

i own an 08 wrangler, 3.8L stick.
i just sold my 02,. with 2.4L I4, it was a bogging engine day one out of factory its a gut less I4. (only tubo can fix it)
2.4 or 4.0 L.
ive own all of them 4 and 6cyl.

Gauges and radio went out

if you beat on the bottom of the dash where youre knees are it will probably come on common problem, on my 98 i pulled the cluster (not hard) and took a pair of needle nose pliers and just slightly twisted all the pins that go into the back of the cluster to make better contact than put dilectric grease on them

1999 jeep cherokee sport 6cyl starting problems - replace crank sensor & power control module - still have trouble.

Based on what you have replaced I would check the fuel filter and if possible check the fuel pressure at the rail.

Just got a1999 jeep wrangler sport with a 4.0l 6cyl and 124,000 miles, what is the best oil and oil filter to use. anthony

There are several different oils to use. I would run a high mileage oil if possible, the brand really doesn't make a difference, but on the oil fill cap it will recommend the proper weight such as 5-30 or 5-20 or 10-40, etc. Proper weight in a high mileage oil is best. Oil filters are about the same way. FRAM being probably the most popular and widely used.

1999 jeep cheroke sport died while driving and wouldn't restart.

i had the same thing happen last year. it was a bad chip. i had to take it to the dealership to have the chip replaced. it cost about 200.00. it was not a big deal at all. after that though, my freeze plug busted and my alternator went out. but now all those problems are fixed. how come when you get a car paid off, everything starts going wrong??
