SOURCE: 2004 Ford Focus ZTS engine whine/ noise

The exhaust system on this vehicle has to be able to flex or it would crack at one of the joints, so it has hangers with rubber bushings to hold it into place and still be able to flex with the engine. Now grant it one of these bushings may have come loose or one of the hangers may have broke but I would be concerned about the thumping of the exhaust against the floor board. This could be caused by a broken motor mount letting the engine flex to much. I would suggest having someone inspect these.

SOURCE: Ford Explorer XLT does not start

have the battery tested, u are not describing a lack of fuel problem, u either have a defective battery or a corroded positive battery cable, that is very comm on on your year and model, I am a Ford dealer tech so I know what is going on with these explorers, it is seldom a fuel pump concern, the slow or no crank is the key factor here.

SOURCE: 1998 Ford Explorer XLT does not start

Well you have made mention of a few things that I don't believe pertain to your starting problem, but I will attempt to give you some information to get you on the road.
The very first thing I thought of when I started reading your problem was your battery is dead, and it may need to be replaced. Although it could be several other this as well. I would start by checking the battery cable ends. Make sure they are clean, free of corrosion and acid film on the battery cable ends and the battery posts. If they are corroded that very well may prevent the battery from recieving the needed charge while driving and it may take a little time before the results of it shows up.
I guess the next thing I would tell you to do is check the voltage of the battery. It should be a little over 12 volts, something like 12.87 volts if you check it with a multi meter. From what you told me so far it probably won't be. So put your battery on a charger for awhile until it charges up. NOTE: a bad battery won't charge up or if it does it won't hold a charge for long.
To me you problem sounds like a shortage of suffieient electrical supply to start your vehicle, and you probably most likely will have to replace your battery. You can have your old battery tested at most places that sell auotmotive batteries and that's what I would do next.
The clicking noise you had made mention of sounds like to me to be a relay clicking from a lack of sufficient electrical power, thus the battery is most likely bad.
Clean your battery connections first and charge up your battery. If that dosen't do it take your battery to a place where they are sold, like Wal Mart, Auto Zone, ect., and have it tested. I'll bet that's your problem. Anyway let me know how you make out and rate my reply
Thanks!

SOURCE: Loud engine knocking on 2001 Ford Focus

Sounds to me like a very common problem has occured to your neighbor. If this is a SOHC engine, one of the valve seats in the number 4 cylinder has fallen out. I'm sure it has damaged the head and the piston. Stop trying to run it or you might blow a hole in the cylinder wall or break a rod or both.

Are the injectors metering? Just because you have fuel pressure dosn't mean it is making it into the cylinders.

What I believe to be a fuel pump problem

If it was the fuel pump, when you spray starter fluid in, it should have started and ran for a couple of seconds. She lost spark. Replace the crank sensor. Sorry I can't ell you exactly where it is, but most are behind the harmonic balance. Lowest pulley on the front of the engine.

Noise my 03 xterra makes when I crank it up. One guy said exhaust manifold and another said knock sensor. Just need a second opinion.

Many times a bad starter motor makes noise like clanking, clicking or grinding when crank the engine. Replace the starter. Sometimes, if the starter motor is grinding the gears on the flywheel, the engine will have a metallic grating sound when you first crank it. This type of starter noise is normally indicative of a starter motor that is worn and about to fail. If you do need to replace your starter this site looks like it has cheap prices, free shipping and great reviews http://www.buyautoparts.com/starter.htm

My jeep cherokee sport will not start what do I check first?

In a 96 Jeep not many sensors are involved. Basically Fuel and spark delivery at right time should start car if your Starter is able to crank the Engine.
If engine is cranking then the battery is Okay. Check Spark directly at the spark plugs and fuel pressure at the fuel rail. You may pull out one spark plug and check spark out of engine.
Try spraying Starting fluid in Air Intake while cranking. If Jeep starts then not enough fuel is being delivered by fuel pump. If you find no spark at plugs then check circuit for starter relay, Crank sensor/cam sensor problems.
A kill switch or bad Alarm system can also cause this problem.

I'm helping a friend to get his 02 Ford Explorer going after sitting for about 6 months, put in new battery and checked fluids then tried starting. it would crank over but not fire up,tried numerous times...

You need fuel, air, and spark to start it. Make sure the engine is getting fuel. Make sure the pump is working. Fuel goes from the pump to the filter, through the lines, to the engine. If the engine is getting gas, you need to check for spark. This concerns the spark plugs/coils, wires, distributor, coil pack, dist.cap, rotor, cam sensor, crank sensor, timing belt, ecm. It is a lot of things but anyone of them can make the car not start. That is why it is important to do a fuel check and a spark check. If it gets fuel, that cancels out fuel. Same for the ignition system, where you get the spark. If you have any questions, just let me know.

2000 GMC Jimmy 4.3L CSEFI won't crank. Fuel pressure is 50psi and should be between 55 to 60psi. Fuel filter 1yr old and fuel pump is probably stock & needs replaced but never had problem before...

Check your starter and check your connections to make sure they are clean and tight. The low fuel pressure won't cause a no crank. Too low could cause a no start but not a no crank. I've had starters be bad right out of the box. But if that starter motor isn't turning either the starter motor is bad or the solenoid attached or the wiring to it is at fault.

99 gmc jimmy, been running okay till a few days ago. Drove it to eat, came back out and it won't start. Battery okay. Tries to turn over, but won't. Acts like out of gas, but half a tank.

Listen for the fuel pump prime cycle.
Have someone listen back by the gas tank....turn the key after it has been off for at least 10 seconds to run position....you should hear a WHIRRRR for about a second or 2.
If it is silent....you may need a fuel pump.
Next give it a shot of starter fluid...if it starts on that...you indeed have a fuel problem. No start....no spark.
If no start and you did hear a pump cycle....then it's most likely a no spark problem.......a common cause is the crank sensor and/or ignition module.
