Had car tested at local auto store,misfire cylinder 2 and po420 code. Swapped coil packs from cylinder 2 with cylinder 1 and rest light.Check engine light stayed off for two days and came back on.Went back and got it tested and misfire cylinder 2 and po420 code came up again. When I got home I took off coil pack from cylinder 2 to inspect and found moisture coming from where the rubber boot connects to the valve head and the heat shield tube.Only affects cylinder 2 causing misfire how can I first fix moisture "leak" problem?

I have a corolla and had #4 cylinder misfire also diagnosed at autozone. After changing the spark plugs, problem persisted, along with the same error code, so they recommended changing the spark plug wires, and that is what fixed it. I would have changed the rotor cap too, but was low on dough. Glad that was not the problem.

A multi misfire may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plug or wires, Faulty coil (pack), Faulty oxygen sensor(s), Faulty fuel injector(s), Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages, Faulty camshaft position sensor, Defective computer.
The engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wire, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the the problems were faulty fuel injectors.
Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.

Not sure if your running a K&N air filter, and if you are there may be a flim of oil on the MAF sensor that is making you run lean. You may want to spray down the MAF sensor with a can of MAF cleaner.

You've tried everything but getting the timing checked out. You've done all the other parts of a tune-up but that.
When you changed the spark plugs did you notice #7 was especially dirty or greasy, this could point to a seal being broken or a piston ring that needs replacing.

it is always a good idea to stay with o.e.m parts and yes there is updated parts in the newer coils. and yes the M.A.F will also cause misfire faults but will not make check engine light flash or make car shake and shudder. also check you wire harness going to your coils make sure your ground wires are not cracked. A misfire doesn't always have to be ignition... it's just the most common cause. Faulty or plugged injector, low compression. You need to check fuel pressure and test the fuel injector flow. Then check compression. If you don't have tools for these tests, take it to someone who does. Testing is much cheaper than throwing parts at the problem.
