2004 Pontiac Montana blows cold air in defrost

My 2004 Pontiac Montana blows cold air through the defrost and hot air to the floor vents. I installed a 205 thermostat. Engine temperature is good. I removed the windshield and upper dashboard to check the flaps. They seem to be working properly. Is there any way that cold air could bypass the heater core to the defrost system? We could not see any way that is possible. Thank you

There is a mix damper inside your duct that controls the heat over heater core and ac evaporator that to your floor and one to your defrost. it is probable an electric actuator, that is not functioning properly. If yu can locate it and manually move it, you might have to remove the actuator motor first, you should be able to figure out your problem, I hope this helps! merry Christmas!

2004 Pontiac Montana blows hot and cold thru vents even though the air conditioning is on. Mechanic says have to take whole dash out to get to the vent doors to fix it. Is there any other solutions?

The problem is within the airflow box, either a stuck or broken flap. It will need to be accessed via dash removal, (not as scary as you think).

Open hood , passenger side firewall area, look for a thin, black vacuum line, follow it and look for any breaks or bad connection to its vacuum source. repair as necessary.

It blows out hot air even when the air in the front is cold

Hard to read your question, do you mean it blows cold air out of the front vents and hot air out of the rear passenger vents?

If the air coming out of the front is just cool and not cold, and the rear vents are warm, you have low freon and need to have it serviced.

I would suggest replacing the blower motor resistor. When this component fails the blower will only work on one spped or none. This is a very common issue with all automotive models
