A battery lite and what looks like a ship on water. What is this?

battery light indicates alternator failure. Water (with arrow pointing down?) is low coolant level in reservoir. The battery light is serious and can leave you stranded. Have the alternator tested as soon as possible. If you have more questions, please let me know.

Low coolant light coming on

if the coolant level is ok then replace the low coolant light sensor, they are a real problem with these low coolant lites, the sensor is located in the side tank of the radiator, it is held in by a spring clip, very easy to change, u can also try leaning it 1st before replacing that often does the trick.

Low coolent light on

Provided that the coolant lvl is alright.  The coolant lvl sensor could be bad or the wiring to your coolant lvl sensor could be bad.  The more likely case is a bad sensor.  If you can see the sensor unplug the wire and jumper the 2 terminals using a paper clip and see if the lite goes off.  If it does you know its the sensor if it doesn't you have bigger issues

Coolant fill procedure

NEVER open the radiator when the car (or any other engine) is running!! The radiator is part of the pressurized cooling system (under that cap is coolant at 15psi)

Correct way to check the coolant in the radiator, is wait until the engine is COLD, then remove the radiator cap and re-fill.
