on the transfer case area there should be a relay to tell it to go in to 4x4. now once you put a blazer in 4x4 and no longer need the 4x4 En-gauged you will need to put the blazer in revers and back up 10 to 15 feet to get it out of 4x4 before driving.

probably the same button that locks the differential automatically locks the 4x4. if the 4x4 light is on your dash then the 4x4 should be working

I don,t think 2002 Explorers have manual locking hubs so solution 1 would be wrong

Are they vacum operated or you have to lock it in by hand.

The lights on the push button 4x4 wont light up .. you need to cut your wheel 80% to the right and then press the 4x4 button ..did this fix it?

The abs sensors also control the traction control and 4 wheel drive actuators so if one of the sensors is faulty the traction control will be disabled and the drive system will be stuck in the mode set at time of failure be that 4x4 or 2wd

Since it seems no one has answered in 3 days I will say something. Some of the 4 wheel systems use vacuum to lock and unlock the 4 wheel system. There are solenoids in the transfer case which adjust the functions into 4 wheel auto, 4 wheel, and 4 wheel low settings. On the units that use electric, the electric strength or power determines how far the electric solenoid extends or travels to change gear functions. These are sensitive electric settings. A burned out dashlight factory wired into that circuit can change the result of what 4 wheel function you will receive. So will a bad connection of a plug-in to the transfer case.

A technician can test the wires to the transfer case and see what electric readings are going into the transfer case when the dash is set to the different dash settings. Besides a Dealer, a really good transmission shop can perform this test.
