1997 Honda civic will not start!

1997 Honda civic, went in to the store and when I came out to start the car it wouldn't start! Had the battery checked and it was good. replaced the starter, and the clutch safty nurtal switch, and it still will not start. I have lights and power but it will just not turn over.

You might have to change the spark plugs or at least have them cleaned.

Air filter, ECU, O2 sensor, bad EGR valve, or clogged cat converter.

Onboard diagnostic computer should be throwing codes. Autozone can check these free (as will other part stores).

Start with the battery unless fairly new & have that tested

Next turn key on & listen for fuel pump

It may run but not have pressure or volume

Check fuel pressure at motor with a gauge

Any light on dash & you checked for codes
didn't you? What are they?

Turning over & Starting are two different things,
don't use them together,different systems there

What kind of filter oil for a 1997 Honda civic lx
Why would you go to the internet to ask that?

If you went to WIX Filters --- you could look up
your engine code, that is on your VIN # & find the
correct oil filter

Any auto parts store will look it up for you

When you say" kind"-- be specific

This is a social web site,not a repair shop or parts
supplier

You should have an owners manual to look at

The filter on the car presently, can be crossed
using the internet

I just replaced the fuel filter in a 98 honda civic checked all fuses and car will not start it tries to turn over but nothing is there an emergency fuel shut off switch that could be preventing this or...
The next step would be to check the pressure of your fuel pump. If it isn't pumping then you wouldn't get fuel through the fuel filter to the injectors.

NOTE: Some auto parts store will loan you the pressure gauge for a deposit.

Yes the problem is effecting the emissions controls. Sounds like the timing if off. Take the vehicle to you local Auto Parts Store and most will scan the ECU for fault codes. This code will help you to figure out the problem.
