2006 Honda Odyssey Tailgate won't stay up when opened

We never had any problems with this before. This morning, it was as if all hydraulics were shot and the tailgate wouldn't stay up for loading and unloading. If you let go of the tailgate, it's coming down with all its weight and nothing stopping it until it slams shut or wallops somebody in the way.

SOURCE: I just went to open

the gas struts that hold the door up appear to have failed... they are (relatively) easy to replace.

SOURCE: 2005 Honda Odyssey Tailgate Problem

Try to reset the tailgate by removing the no.7 (7.5 amp) fuse in the underdash fuse box. Open and close the tailgate manually, reinstall the fuse, and try the open tailgate button. If that doesn't work you would have take it to the dealer, where they can check for DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes). Honda Al

SOURCE: Tailgate problem

Have you checked the fuses? When the door issue happened did anything else stop working? Could be fuse, power supply issue, remote issue, electrical, or something fallen off or broken inside the door. You'll need to climb in the back & carefully try to remove the panel on the door. Sometimes difficult when the door is closed. Just a few ideas for you to consider. Good luck

SOURCE: The tailgate on my 2007 Honda Odyssey lost all

You have to replace the lift supports on the rear door, found at this link:
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PartSearchCmd?storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&pageId=partTypeList&suggestion=&searchTerm=lift
Or at your local parts store or ebay.
Be careful not to drop it into you or drop it to hard and brake the glass.
I would see if there are any recalls on this for your model and vin number too. Your vehical seems kind of new for this to happen already, but it is possible.
Here are some links to recalls:
