Ford did diagnostic. Got error codes: p0733 & p0745. They're saying to replace or rebuild transmission. Said the fluid was dirty & had metal in it. Do you think it needs replacing?

Upon exceleration it rev's up to 4000 rpm, have to let off gas pedal to let it shift into gear. Shifts hard, & rolls back or forward when on a steep grade. Just bought it from Ford used at 176,000 miles. They assured me only thing wrong was the a/c needed recharged. Now having transmission problems & they or Ford Customer Service won't do anything for me. They're saying the transmission needs replaced.

Its a Ford with 176k+ miles on it. Don't act surprised is the transmission is bad. You might as well get ready for motor repairs too.

SOURCE: E40d trans will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear, only rev. 1+2

check or replace your thottle position sensor tps that trans needs to know where the throttle is to shift if it is bad it will do as you say wont shift to third
another telltale is it will act like it goes into lockup when shifting into reverse and stall the engine

My 1993 Ford Explorer XLT will not go into reverse, it will roll backwards if pushed in neutral but it will not roll in reverse if pushed in reverse.

If your 1993 Ford Explorer XLT is not engaging in reverse, but will roll backwards if pushed in neutral, there are a few things that could be causing the issue:
  1. Transmission fluid: Check the transmission fluid level and condition. Low or dirty transmission fluid can cause issues with shifting and engagement.
  2. Transmission linkage: The linkage that connects the transmission shifter to the transmission may be damaged or misaligned. Check the linkage for any signs of damage or misalignment.
  3. Transmission solenoid: The transmission solenoid that controls the engagement of reverse gear may be malfunctioning. A diagnostic scan tool can be used to check for any error codes related to the solenoid.
  4. Internal transmission issues: It's possible that there is an internal issue with the transmission, such as a damaged gear or worn clutch. A transmission rebuild or replacement may be necessary in this case.
It's best to have a professional mechanic diagnose and repair the issue, as transmission repairs can be complex and require specialized knowledge and equipment. They can properly diagnose the issue and recommend the best course of action to get your vehicle back in working order.

BMW E46 ZF 5HP19 trouble code P1732 P0733 P0734. My car only has 110K miles, transmission fluid has just replaced. It was dark, dirty, not burned, has some sludge but no metal shavings. After driving for...

Yes, this could be the shift solenoid. Was the transmission filter changed at the same time as the fluid? Dirt in the system can affect some of the transmission sensors tripping Trouble codes. I cannot be sure what the P1732 code is as some codes can be very vehicle specific but it appears to refer to the transmission or on of it's sensors.

P0733 - Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio.
P0734 - Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio.

  • Defective Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
  • Defective Valve Body
  • Dirty transmission fluid that restricts the hydraulic passages

02 Dodge Stratus for the 2.4 engine pO700 po733

P0700 is simply the ecm recognising that the tcm (tranny) has an error code stored/registered. The one to worry about is your p0733 code. This code means the tcm detected a gear ratio error in third gear. There's 5 main possible causes. Simple/cheap -> expensive/difficult. .. Low or dirty ATF. Add fluid if low or change fluid and filter If burnt smelling or dirty/discolored. Shifting solenoid . Check or have tested the shifting solenoids . They control fluid flow and transfer to various clutch packs for gears. Hydraulic control circuit and mechanical failure. Both of these require full rebuild. Control circuit is expensive and hard to get to . Mechanicalso is usually either a worn out/pourly adjusted clutch pack causing the gear to slip or a failing torque converter.

Ford trauras trouble code 732 - was told transmission code 732 was being produced, what does a code 732 say?

P0732 FORD - Incorrect Second Gear Ratio
Transmission in second gear and the ECM detected an incorrect gear ration. This diagnosis monitors actual gear position by checking the torque converter slip ratio calculated by Transmission Control Module (TCM) as follows:

Torque converter slip ratio = A x C/B

A: Output shaft revolution signal from revolution sensor
B: Engine speed signal from Engine Control Module (ECM)
C: Gear ratio determined as gear position which TCM supposes

If the actual gear position is higher than the position (2nd) supposed by TCM, the slip ratio will be more than normal. In case the ratio exceeds the specified value, TCM judges this diagnosis malfunction.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Incorrect transmission shifting

Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

Tech notes
Start by inspecting the transmission fluid level and condition, and change fluid if necessary.

Hope helps.
