There is not a trans.fluid tank,it is all stored in the trans.pan.you just check the fluid with the dipstick and fill it through the same tube with a trans.funnel.

Transmission fluid in the power steering is definantly not reccomended, i would flush the power steering ASAP before even driving it or you will most likely be looking at another rack and pinion :(
P0037 & P0138 do have to do with the vehicle running rich but for now I would concentrate on the P0740 because this is the main reason for the stalling and going in and out of gear. That code has to do with the transmission. Don't take it the wrong way but not quite sure of how much you know about auto repair so just want to make sure you have covered the basics. Have you checked your transmission fluid level ? Also make sure now or in the past if fluid has been changed that the fluid that was added was ATF + 4. The code is saying that there is a problem with the torque converter clutch solonoid which is located inside the transmission. If the fluid & level is good, I would check the main connection at the transmissin. I have marked the plug you need to check on the left side of the tansmission in the 1st picture below. I believe it is black in color. The picture below that is the picture of the wiring inside the transmission. The coneector that says case connector goes through a hole in the transmission and connects to that plug you need to check and clean real well on the left side of the transmission. The thing marked converter clutch solonoid is what the P0740 says may have a problem area. In most cases when that goes bad the vehicle will die the second you put it in gear and since you are not and going in and out of gear (rocking) it sounds more like a fluid issue or electrical. There are many tests that need to be done to fully diagnose the problem if that doesn't help but that's where I would start. If you do need further testing procedures feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to send you them. Hope this helps......
The transmission filter is under the car under the transmission fluid pan. you have to lift up your car loosen the volts, take of the pan, take of the filter put in the new one, put the new one on, put the transmission fluid pan in place, put the bolts and tighten them, lower the car and put however much transmission fluid your car takes. Hope the best of luck for ya.
Looks like your computer is detecting a transmission/transaxle problem. Have you had your filter changed in the tansmission yet? Are you a little low on transmission fluid? Is the transmission fluid high like it's overfilled? Is your transmission fluid brownish and smell burnt? Just a couple of things you might need to look at. You may or even should take it to a reputible transmission shop and have them run a scan on it to see what the problem is. I know this doesn't seem like much help to you at this point and time but I would have it taken care of before any damage may happen.
hi this could be the clutch slipping, if its an automatic transmission, try checking the fluid levels it could be low, or the transmission fluid might need replacing, make sure when you check the fluid the vehicle is on idle if it is an automatic, but if it is a manual transmission, best way the find out if it is the clutch, is to put it in 4th gear, put the parking brake on as hard as you can get it, make sure you are not parked close to anything, then slowly lift the clutch up, if it stalls out, its ok, and just might need adjusting, if it just sits there then you need to change the clutch....hope this helps
we might need to know if this is the car's 1st transmission and how many miles are on it --- but tansmissions that make noise and **** when put into gear are transmissions that are low on transmission fluid or have burnt (old) fluid - check your transmission fluid level using the transmission fluid dipstick (its location should be in the car's owners' manual).
If fluid looks dark (significantly darker than new fluid from the bottle), then drain &fill tranny.
If fluid is just low, fill tranny and monitor level for continued leakage.
A word of caution: keep on top of the tranny's fluid level - running on a dry transmission is a really good way to put a 94 Cutlass into the junkyard before its time.
Ensure that the transaxle case temperature is 70° to 90° F (21° to 32° C). With the engine running, shift transmission through all gears. With engine idling in PARK, remove the check plug from the transmission. If transmission has been overfilled, allow fluid to drain out. If no fluid drains out, add fluid through the TRANS FLUID fill cap under the hood on the driver side in 1 pint (0.5 liter) increments until it slightly flows from the check plug. Reinstall the check plug.
