Hi, I removed the glove box and the panel, but I don't know how to find out the cabin filter location. Looks like there is something behind where the glove box is present, but it seems tightly sealed. Please tell me how to replace the cabin filter in 2009 Mitsubishi Galant. Thanks!
Yes not all have cabin air filter from factory but one can easily convert to one. You see some grooved lines that form a small rectangle? That is the plate that is all black? That is it. The black sealed unit you are talking about that is what you need to access. The unit doesn't come with a removable front cover so you are going cut one out. It sounds scary but don't worry it is very easy. Don't know why they sealed it doesn't make any sense to me. Who wants to breathe unfiltered air? You then get a box cutter and cut along the groves and follow the outline of the re tangle. It will then pop off and you can now put in your cabin air filter. However you will need to get a cover that snaps in place or else you can have hissing noises and air leaks as the system is sealed.
You can find the whole genuine Mitsubishi kit part number MZ312931. It comes with filter and cover together on eBay for around $30 and if not the dealer should have them for a little more and perhaps around the same price depending on your location and local dealer prices. Call to check so you don't have to wait for online orders to be delivered. Have your VIN ready if you call so they can cross reference the parts to see if it works for your particular vehicle. The part number is all you need when you call the parts dept. The part number I listed works for many cars but for sure 2004-2012 Galants. Instructions are also included or at least should be if the seller didn't lose it. You don't need instructions as I spell it out pretty clearly but it's nice to still have as a handy visual reference.
Try to buy from a real Mitsubishi dealer on Ebay if you want to get good service, legit parts, and warranty, etc. If you are super cheap and lazy you can always go with a just sticking duct tape over the the expose front wheeze the cover goes. Just make sure to use lots of good sticking tape as you don't want it to blow off when you turn the blower on high. I would suggest doing it the right way.
It will be in that tightly sealed box
If I try to remove the tightly sealed box, i might have to almost unscrew the entire dashboard. Isn't there a better way to replace ? Could you please provide the exact steps to minimize the effort ?
I have the same prboelm: bought the paper insert but cannot take the filter assembly out. All the how-to videos miss theat critical job part. I guess Mitsubishi only reveals that secret to the dealers. This is the bad side of Mistubishi.
There is no cabin filter in Galant 2009 so if you experienced any pad smell you can clean the evaporator only by using one of the A/C cleaner spray like Gardx.
mohamed...some 2009 galants did have the cabin air filter. once you have located that box behind the glove compartment you should be able to just slide the old filter out, if it had one. if not, it will be sealed. you can "add" one by cutting the narrow "rectangle" of plastic where the filter would be, but you will then have to find a way to "reseal" the filter in the compartment until you need to change it again

SOURCE: Replacing speakers in Mitsubishi Galant
If the car is an 03 galant it is very simple to remove.
DRIVER SIDE:
Remove the window crank if it is not Electric Window.
Remove the Screw that holds the "Open Door Handle" cover.
Remove the Screw that holds the "Pull Handle Pocket"
Remove both plastic covers.
Remove all 3 hidden crews that have a plastic cover over them.
One is toward the front of the door top and the other two are toward the rear of the door top and bottom side.
Carefully pry around the door trim panel to disengage it from th retaining clips, along the sides and bottom. If you have electric windows, disconnect the if from the door trim to access the speaker. Same procedure for both doors.

u should be able to sqeeze the sides of the glove just far enough to get past the stops of the glove box. then u should see the access to the filter
Testimonial: "very correct on how to get the glove box off, sadly I still couldn't find the filter. I was told some 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse's didn't have one(?)"
