Will my 92 MPV run with out an AC condenser?

I got into a fender bender and cracked my radiator. Upon removing it i saw the AC condenser is bent and bowed inwards making the removal and installation of a new radiator a problem. If i removed the condenser will my car operate without any further problems or do i need the condenser?

I was told that if i do not have the condenser in that i will need a bypass belt do you know of any such belts that work with the condenser to verify this?

  • Allan Aug 23, 2012

What it sounds like is what you were told is you need a shorter belt so as to bypass the A/C compressor. Not necessarily. The way A/C compressors work is via magnetic clutch and a few other things. With no refrigerant in the system (because your condenser is busted), the A/C compressor shouldn't engage, therefore, even though the pulley is turning, the compressor is not. However, if I recall correctly, your vehicle should three belts, one being dedicated to the A/C compressor. If you are concerned, I'd just simply remove the belt that goes around the compressor.

The condenser is not busted, just bent in the way of the instalation of a new radiator. There for i was going to just remove it thus forfitting any future AC but allowing myself to get the vehicle running with out having to pay for a mechanic

10-4. Still with no refrigerant, I don't think you need to worry about removing the A/C compressor belt just because it should engage without the proper amount of refrigerant. Also a plus to get your vehicle mobile without having to pay a mechanic.

Your car should have no issue running without an A/C condenser, however, you will not have any A/C (cool to cold air).

Where is the ac unit on 2001 lasabre custom?

Where is the leak on the radiator? (front, side, top, bottom...)
My guess is that it might have also caused a leak in the condenser, or the lines going to the condenser. The lines are connected on the right side of the condenser, which is mounted right in front of the radiator.

Front end fender bender

out side of panel damage it will be the cost the of a new replacement radiator and labour-- about 1 hr . If you have damaged the condenser for the ac unit then it will be more expensive than a radiator and the time will be up to 2 hrs labour.

I was in a minor fender bender ( bumped the car in front of me and did little cosmotic damage.) After that my check engine light came on. The code is P1491 Manufacturer Control Axillary Emissions...

The DTC (Data Trouble Code) P1491 for Chrysler-Jeep is for the Radiator Fan Control Relay Circuit, and the radiator fan control relay is located between the radiator and the AC condenser, and there is the possibility that a collision could have damaged the radiator control relay or the wiring. Here is an image of a chrysler radiator control relay to help assist you.

Chevy Astro engine removal

You got it. No other short cut. You may want to look at pulling front clip. You can leave in radiator and condenser. And usaually less bolts. Wiring harness and body mounts at core and a few fender bolts. Good luck.

Trying to replace the ac condenser fan on a 92 honda accord. How do you get to the bottom bolt??

You will have to remove the lower splash pan (plastic thing that goes across the entire front underneath, not hard to remove) from under the radiator in order to get at the lower fan bolts. The condenser fan shroud had a single lower retaining bolt; the radiator fan shroud has two.
Hope this is helpful.

The air conditioner of my 2001 Mazda MPV isn't working.

I recently had the same problem. It was a cracked radiator. Evidently, this shuts off the AC compressor.

Heat will only defrost, no matter where I put the dial.

In the front of the cherokee, right side under the bumper there is a football shaped plastic canister.
The canister is a resoiver for vacuum that control the heat and defrost doors. Either it is cracked from the fender bender or the body shop didn't connect the vacuum lines.
