You probably can't.
If the anti-theft module is in the cluster, you would need the correct key chip for the car the cluster came out of.
You might be able to bypass the passkey system by running a wire to the fuel pump relay and other components.
You may need a shop manual to find the circuits.

SOURCE: Car will not start. just had fuel pump replaced.

YES IT CAN . When your anti theft is acting up and failing, you are looking at 1 of 3 things. Either the vehicle won't crank over and start, It cranks but dies in a few seconds, or your vehicle shuts off while driving scaring the **** out of you. You have now experienced GM's worst security system ever created. GM's security, also known as Passlock Passkey or Vats.

There are 3 parts in this system.
1.The CHIPKEY
Normally a black resister chip in key which "communicates" to the lock cylinder. Sometimes is hidden in the plastic part of keys in new models. Same concept, might say PK1 PK2 PK3 PL or something similar to that. The newer ones work on frequency. Same thing tho.
2.The LOCK CYLINDER
Inside there are pins that read the chip in the key or the part that reads the frequency on new models. This then "communicates" to the TDM)
3.The TDM
Theft Deterrant Module-Sometimes called the "computer" or "brain". This is the part that sends the signal (**NOTE**) to your car and allows your car to start or continue running depending on your type of system.
If any of these parts are not communicating properly, your SECURITY light will come on and shut down your vehicle. The idea being, that without the chipped key or FOB key, the vehicle wont start and cant be "hotwired" or stolen. Pretty nice when working, but these systems are flawed and the average life is 6-10 years. Every single aspect of this system is expensive to replace and can only be worked on by "authorized" GM service men with out voiding warrenty. Most garages dont even touch them and if they do,
they will sell you every part they can before "fixing" the problem/
*QUICK FIX TRICKS*
1st trick
Try a spare key that is newer or used less. The pins wear down with use and so do the keys causing the security to fail. (remember this is a temporary fix and should be used to get home or to the mechanic. The problem is only going to get worse)

2nd trick
(if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my Buick for more than a year. If its shutting down while running, I'm sorry I have no quick fix...

*PERMINANT FIX*
Well since the lifespan of these systems are so short, and are extremely expensive to fix, and in my opinion far worse of a threat to owners than theives, my only perminant suggestion is to eliminate it completely. After a year of 10 minute tricks and a "key bypass" that lasted 2 months and stranded me out of state, ($375 tow charge) i have only one good suggestion. After surfing the web for hours thru forums and websites i came across http://newrockies.com/passkey to the starter or injectors and so on. Thus eliminating the ENTIRE system completely. I came upon a fork in my road. A TDM for $600 in my $1000 car or the $200 bypass. Or throw my car away. Lets say i now drive a Buick with the chip ripped out of the key and the TDM sitting in my glovebox for show
and tell. If you have any questions or anything else. Comment on this post
and i'll get an E-mail to reply to you. If you do choose to buy the bypass,
i have pictures of what a TDM looks like and will definately help you when
installing the newrockies bypass. Good luck
Here is a list of known effected cars that can be fixed with the
newrockies bypass. This is the same list from the site and updates
frequently.

SOURCE: i can't disable my anti theft device on my chevy

This usually works.Lock the doors with the remote.Press lock twice sounding the alarm. Then press the unlock button twice.Your car should start now.If that doesnt work try this,Lock the car again with the remote once.Go over to the passenger side door and use the key to unlock the door then press in the door unlock all doors.Hopefully by now it worked. Now if none of these work your security probably malfunctioned and theres only two things that will work,One is disconnecting the battery for 5 mins then reconnecting.unlock doors.the start. If that doesnt work you'll have to take it to the dealer to get the security reset or replaced. The steps I have wrot you are the diagnostics to reset it.I hope these work for you and good luck.See ya had have a great day..

02 olds alero no start system shut down

Where did you try to by-pass at , with the 2000 ohm resistor ? Is the SECURITY light lit on the instrument cluster ? Probably has another problem other then the key . The anti-theft system in your vehicle can not be by-passed by using a resistor .

The Passlock™ System is provided in order to prevent vehicle theft if the ignition lock cylinder is forced to rotate or the ignition switch is operated while separated from the ignition lock cylinder case. If starting is attempted without authorization from the Passlock™ System, the powertrain control module (PCM) will disable engine starting. Start disable may be in the form of fuel disable or starter disable, depending on engine application.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . Before you render it unfixable . (cost to much )

Whr is my fuel pump reset button on my 2003 grand am? Its security lock, it wont get any fuel. It cranks but wont start. Not getting any fuel. First time ever happening

There is no reset button.
The problem could be the anti-theft system which would knock out the injectors and spark to the plugs.
If the security light is staying on, the problem could be the chip in the key.

I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, I had a remote starter installed a few years ago. it has always worked fine until this year. now it starts the car just fine but the car does not stay running. it stalls...

Maybe it's the anti-theft system an not the remote start . Is the SECURITY light lit on the instrument cluster ? GM anti-theft systems will disable the fuel injectors if there is a problem .

1260 code wont start

P1260 - This, basically is indicating that a theft has occurred, and the engine has been disabled. If the engine stalled, during travel, and the code was pulled after the stall, this will indicate the following:

1.A loss of power, or ground wire to the PCM
2.A Faulty PCM power relay
3.A Faulty EEC power diode
4.A Faulty VERF signal.

Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) communicates PCM through instrument cluster to enable or disable vehicle's engine. Within one second after engine start, PCM must receive an enable signal from instrument cluster or engine will be disabled. Along with enable signals, instrument cluster and PCM share messages that confirm security codes shared during initial installation. This shared security data makes instrument cluster and PCM a matched pair, so neither will operate in another vehicle. When system is functioning properly and ignition switch is turned to RUN or START position, THEFT indicator light will turn on for 3 seconds, then turn off. Vehicle will be enabled to start and run. If a problem exists in PATS, THEFT indicator light will stay on or flash continuously.

NOTE_ The best action is to clear the code, by using a diagnostic CPU. Plug the CPU into your in car port, under the dash. Follow the instruction on the CPU display to clear the code. if the engine dose not start after the code is cleared, this will indicate that there are some issues with the PCM, or PATS

Is there any way eliminate the anti-theft system on my 1999 windstar cause mine is malfunctioning and not allowing it to run (start). How many parts and connectors make up the system, anyways?

Anti-Theft —Passive The passive anti-theft system (PATS) contains the following components:

  • theft indicator
  • encoded ignition key
  • transceiver module
  • instrument cluster
  • powertrain control module (PCM)
  • standard corporate protocol (SCP) communication network
  • starter relay
The PATS uses radio frequency identification technology to deter a driveaway theft. Passive means that it does not require any activity from the user. This system is known as SecuriLock® in North America, Safeguard® in the U.K. and PATS in continental Europe. This information can be found in customer literature such as the Owners Guide.
The PATS uses a specially encoded ignition key. Each encoded ignition key contains a permanently installed electronic device called a transponder. Each transponder contains a unique electronic identification code, with over 72 million billion combinations.
Each encoded ignition key must be programmed into the vehicle's instrument cluster before it can be used to start the engine. There are special diagnostic procedures outlined in the manual that must be performed if the encoded ignition keys need to be replaced.
The encoded key is larger than a traditional ignition key. The key does not require batteries and should last the life of the vehicle.
The transceiver module communicates with the encoded ignition key. This module is located behind the steering column shroud and contains an antenna connected to a small electronics module. During each vehicle start sequence, the transceiver module reads the encoded ignition key identification code and sends the data to the instrument cluster.
The control functions are contained in the instrument cluster. This module performs all of the PATS functions such as receiving the identification code from the encoded ignition key and controlling the engine enable. The instrument cluster initiates the key interrogation sequence when the vehicle ignition switch is turned to RUN or START.
The PATS uses the PCM to enable or disable the engine. The instrument cluster communicates with the PCM over the SCP communication network in order to enable engine operation. The instrument cluster and the PCM use sophisticated messages in order to prevent a theft. The instrument cluster and the PCM share security data when first installed together that makes them a matched pair. After this security data sharing, these modules will not function in other vehicles. The shared PCM ID is remembered even if the battery is disconnected. The instrument cluster also stores the vehicle's key identification code even if the battery is disconnected. There are special diagnostic procedures outlined in this workshop manual that may be performed if either the instrument cluster or the PCM needs replacement.
All elements of PATS must be functional before the engine is allowed to start. If any of the components are not working properly, the vehicle will not start.
PATS uses a visual theft indicator. This indicator will prove out for three seconds when the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START under normal operation. If there is a PATS problem, this indicator will either flash rapidly or glow steadily (for more than three seconds) when the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START. PATS also "blips" the theft indicator every two seconds at ignition OFF to act as a visual theft deterrent.
PATS differs from perimeter anti-theft systems in that PATS enables and disables the engine from starting. If equipped, the perimeter anti-theft system protects the perimeter of the vehicle (doors, hood and trunk) and sounds an alarm.
PATS also disables the starter motor in addition to the PCM disabling the engine. When PATS disables the vehicle, it will neither crank nor start. If the instrument cluster is removed from the vehicle, the engine will not crank.
The starter relay is used as an additional means of disabling the vehicle engine. The starter relay is disabled when the PATS cannot read a valid encoded ignition key at ignition ON. The PATS will not store a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or flash the theft indicator if a valid encoded ignition key is read but a fault occurs in the starter relay circuit.
The PATS is not compatible with after market remote start system, which allow the vehicle to be started from outside the vehicle. These systems may reduce the vehicle security level, and also may cause no-start issues. Remote start systems must be removed before investigation of PATS-related no start issues.
