First the brakes: When I brake somewhat hard at higher speeds (like 50 mph) the brakes often sound like something is rubbing/grinding and then it begins to shutter and seems like the anti-lock brakes are kicking in. Once I finally am close to stopped, the brake pedal becomes fairly loose and drops to the floor quite easily. I assumed I needed new brake pads, only to find they are fine. Today I bled the brake lines in case there was air in them. It didn't make a difference. I also considered a vacuum leak, but that doesn't appear to be the problem either. And now my check engine light is on. This problem has been going on for a few months now. Second, the idle: ONLY when I'm running the heat/AC (fan) I have a "bump" in my idle, as it's been described to me. The car will idle fine, but then suddenly sound like I've revved the engine a little and the RPM's go up as well. It used to happen every 12 seconds or so like clockwork. Now it happens ever 5 seconds. In the beginning, it was mild and I wondered if I just hadn't noticed it before. However, it got worse. The bump in the idle is so strong that if I'm not pressing the brake pedal, the car will lunge forward. Ideas? Also, could these two things be related? If you haven't noticed, I'm female and I really have no idea what to do or where to begin. I've done as much as I can and don't have the money to have it checked out, although my baby's father and his step-father have been tinkering with it with no luck.
I would be willing to bet yur calipers are freezing up on you.you can have brand new pads but if your calipers arent wooorking yur brakes are gonna have nothing but problems.they do sound like your pads are shot and if they are doing what you say they are you might as well get rotors to cause once u get that kind of noise turning them is out of the question you need to turn them before they make any noise their unturnable now so go out and get pads,,calipers and rotors and you will be set as long as u no how to do the work.If not it will run u about 550.00 bucks god luck

have your fuel system vacuumed out our excursion did it as well the injectors are not at fault it is the fuel lines
SOURCE: Engine suddenly revs when stopped & @ idling
sounds like one of the metal arms connected to the engine may be getting stuck some how. have someone get in car and press on gas when car is off while you watch engine to see what is moving, then check those arms to see if there is any possible obstructions or knicks or something on them

you got it, the booster is leaking reducing the vacuum to the intake, replace it

Check another vac source in/around engine. When you load engine with brake booster, then lower vac pressure w/Up idle, it's amplifying another vac source that might be weak.
