Hi,
The emission light is on because the computer senses a problem with your
engine and/or sensors. It is alerting you that there is an emission
problem with your vehicle. You will need to get the "Codes" from the
computer. They will tell you what is wrong. Any auto parts store will
get the codes from your vehicle for free. Get the codes and post them on
this page. We can diagnose the problem with the codes to help you fix
it.
You have to drive the Sable over to the store. They will plug in a scan
tool that connects to a port under the drivers side of the dash. It
will test the system for codes and they will write them down for you. Do
not let them sell you any parts. They only guess at what is wrong and
most of the time they are wrong in their guesses.
Let me know,so that we could proceed.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

You do a test while driving with a live data recording scan device and then look at the information in graphs at the shop when you return. In off vehicle test is invalid.
