2000 civic LX automatic...in gear and then neutralized

Yesterday I noticed a slight whine in the engine and then the whine stopped and although the car was in still in D, no power when pressing on the accelerator. The car was still running. I put the car in park, turned it off for a moment, back on and back in gear. Whine was present again although it was in gear, when the whine disappeared car again neutralized. Transmission fluid at good level, good color and does not smell burnt. I know the transmission filter is inside the transmission so I cannot check it. Could it just be the TC clutch is fowling from debris or do you think it is something more? I had heard that Honda was extending warrenty on certain models with specific VINs because of reoccurring trans issues. I would not qualify for that nor any "goodwill" from Honda as my VIN was not within the specified range. Needless to say I am struggling finacially, so I am looking at the most cost effective solution. Your thoughts? Any ideas on how much I should be expecting to pay?

Get the car to your nearest trans specialist to be scanned, these trans suffer from solonoid faults, however they also suffer with the differentials, 1st case approx €120.00 plus the solonoid 2nd case €1500.00 plus

The ideal idle RPM (revolutions per minute) for a 1990 Plymouth Acclaim V6 LX with an automatic transmission can vary slightly depending on factors like engine condition and specific adjustments. However, a common range for idle RPM is around 600 to 800 RPM when the car is in gear and stopped. It's always best to consult the vehicle's manual or reach out to a qualified mechanic for precise information tailored to your car's specifications.

The sixth generation featured updated styling although less radical than previous redesigns. Suspension and engine options were available along with their first Natural Gas Powered Civic, the GX. From 1996-2000 the Civic was sold under the CX, DX, EX, EXR, HX, LX, and for Canada, SE, and Si trims; all base models were made with 1.6L engines. The EX-CX are all SOHC (Honda D engine). The CX, DX, and LX all have D16y7 non-VTEC engines; whereas the EX has a D16y8 VTEC, and the HX has D16y5 VTEC-E. The USDM Si and Canadian SiR came with a DOHC (B16A2 VTEC). The first civic SI coupe EM1 was introduced in 1999 until 2000. Europe saw a DOHC 1.6 VTI hatch and sedan and a DOHC 1.8VTI engine was available for the Domani related five-door liftback and estate..

Whining from engine when in gear

Just a thought- remove the oil filler cap when the whine is present - (this checks if PCV valve is faulty, causing high crankcase vacuum, which in turn causes a whistling/whine noise as air leaks past engine oil seals). Worth a check.

Try listening with a short piece of hose pipe to locate immediate area/source of noise.

Who repaired it? They should make good on it. The ignition wires might be crossed(spark plug wiring). don-ohio (:^)

97 4runner making a low whirring noise/whine from engine.

Could be a possible break down of the plug wires. Seems that I remember hearing if your plug wires are breaking down inside and if its up against the motor you can hear something that sounds like interference in your radio. Just a thought, might want to check it out.
