Unless the head gasket is leaking, I would think you are looking for something electrical that is not working when hot, or a fuel problem.
Do you know if you have spark and fuel pressure when it will not start ?

SOURCE: head gasket 'blown' on 94 Nissan Cefiro, 2.5L, 24

if you get a haynes repair manual and follow it step by step everything should go fine. or clintons. if you have questions about what its telling you to do then that would be a good thing to ask. the problem is there are alot of different designs for engines and it could be affected and it could not be. but if your not sure you definitly need a repair manual. it would tell you everything but it will guide you in the right direction

SOURCE: where is the fuel filter 2005 nissan frontier?

Built in the gas tank. It is cleanable. Don't have to buy a new one.

It is built into the pump so if it would have to be replaced then you would have to replace the whole pump. To me thats pretty crappy design.

Crawl under the truck, you should have two or three lines coming off the fuel tank, one will have the filter, one is the return, and one is emissions.

SOURCE: 2005 nissan frontier wont start i have fuel and

Take one of the spark plugs out and let us know what it looks like. Dry and light grayish tan means you have spark but fuel supply problems. Wet spark plug that smells like gas means it is more of a spark issue.

Good Luck

do a coolant system pressure test to make sure no internal leakage -cracked head--- head gasket improperly installed --warped head -and recheck the fan clutch new doesnt mean free from defects

Why does the temperature gauge reads hot when switch is turn on Nissan frontier 98

If your temperature gauge reads hot as soon as you turn the ignition on it's probably due to a faulty temperature sender. The link below may show you the location of that sensor:

nissan frontier temperature sender Google Search

The sensor is very easy to change. It just screws into the block. It may have a 'brass' appearance and have either 1 or 2 electrical wires attached.

To change it, simply disconnect the wire and then use a wrench to unscrew it.

I have a '98 Niss Frontier XE.Lt gray smoke comes out of exhaust, trans slips in 3rd gear, cant pass 35mph w/out turning O/D off. chk eng light is on.can I check for the prob w/out taking it to shop?

White or light gray smoke could be an indication the head gasket is leaking or even blown. The motor will also run hot and you lose cooling fluid. I would not use the car for any other ride then straight to the repair shop.

2006 Frontier has only intermintent heat. Anti freeze levels good, no antifreeze leaking or in the crankcase. Normal temps on the gauge. The heat just comes and goes

Be verry careful with this kind of problem. Make sure you are not losing coolant somewere like through the exhaust through the head gasket. Before hot but close to opperating temp check for air bubles while radiator cap off. IF there are bubbles then the head gasket is leaking or blown. Sometimes a bottle of head gasket sealer will do the trick. (Remember if there is no fluid the electric thermometer for the engine to read it will not say it is hot). If the temp rises at a stop and then decreases this may be the problem. Check the fan clutch, if it feels realy easy to turn by hand then it may need to be replaced. Coolant systems (not open systems like BMW) must maintain constant pressure, so if the seal on the radiator is bad and air can escape then it needs to be replaced.

Frontier 2000 2.4L King Cab 100K miles. Temp guage indicates overheating. Will intermittently spike then drop to normal. Engine does not "smell" hot or run rough at any time. Grab upper hose, you can...

I've had problems with Datsun (later Nissan) engines hanging the closed thermostat until it boiled, then the thermostat released and operated normally. If you increase the small vent hole in the thermostat valve plate a small amount, the problem disappears. It seems that steam from engine operation gathers behind the thermostat sensing bulb and delays opening. The increase in vent hole size lets the steam through and allows the hot water to open the valve. Hope this helps!

Sounds like the fan and temp gauge (located on the intake mainfold is screwing up) , if its head gaskets it would be smoking out the tail pipe. Have you added any antifreeze if so was it once a week if so make sure nothings leaking on the ground if there isn't then its your head gaskets that would be a first for a 4.6 which is a good motor and none I would on ever had bad heads. I would check the water pump fan first with truck off grap fan at 9 and 3 and see if it wobbels forward and backward if so it's the fan. I have come across alot of bad fans. Fan would cost $30 and up. Rate of difficulty 1-10 I give it a 4.
