Had the same problem with my 2006 Impala with the 3.5 engine blowing cold air at idle. There is an air pocket in the heater core. With the engine cold, remove the upper heater hose (to the left of the brake fluid reservoir) and add water to the hose until coolant comes out of the metal cross-over tube then reconnect the hose. Fix takes 5 minutes…all you need is a pair of pliers and a funnel.
These cars easily get air trapped in the coolant system. Park the car somewhere so that you car get the right front of the car as high as possible. Take the coolant filler cap off and start the car. You should see air bubbles appear as it bleeds it self. Once coolant starts to overflow put the cap back on. It should be fine now but if not repeat again.
Gm Has a TSB to reflash the PCM that will fix this.

My 2006 Impala blows cold air until I raise the rpms to about 1500 or so.
I allowed the engine to cool completely, then checked the coolant level. I added less than 1 liter of coolant. Now it seems the problem is solved. It will blow warm air as soon as the engine temp starts coming up. Now i just need to figure out why the coolant was low when there are no apparent leaks. But this is the way it came from the dealership after they did their total vehicle inspection. Think i got my money's worth? Hmmmm what else did they miss?
