If the ignition wont lock in place, just redo it but this time you need to realize that you install the key cylinder with the key in the ON postion, straight into the lock cylinder housing, aligning the retaining tabs,on the key cylinder with the hole in the lock cylinder housing. Then turn the key to the off position,
the key is just the lock assembly the actual ignition switch is behind thelock take the plastic covers off steering housing the ignition is the black square housing held on with tamperproof torx screws easy to replace
tap the ignition lock cylinder with the plastic end of a scrwedriver (with the key removed). then insert the key and try to start. Try this several times. If you get it to turn immediately replace the igntion lock cylinder. The cylinder needs to be in the on position in order for the lock button to be depressed so that the cylinder can be removed from the housing.
If you still can't get it to turn than you will have to drill out the lock button in order to get the old lock cylinder out. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you have some experience and understand what you are doing.
The lock button can be accessed by removing the lower steering column cover.
Ignition Lock Cylinder - Removal & Installation
CAUTION
The Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system must be
disarmed before working around the air bag or SIR wiring. Failure to do
so may cause accidental deployment of the air bag, resulting in
unnecessary SIR system repairs and/or personal injury.
Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable from the battery.
In order to disarm the air bag system, allow the SIR system
capacitor to discharge for at least 2 minutes, before performing any
removal procedures.
Remove the screws that secure the parking brake release handle to the instrument panel.
Remove the screws that secure the bottom of the lower steering column cover to the instrument panel.
Disengage the retaining clip that holds the right side of the lower steering column cover to the instrument panel.
Remove the lower steering column cover from the vehicle.
Remove the mounting screws that hold the upper and lower steering column shrouds and remove the lower steering column shroud.
Install the ignition key and turn the key cylinder to the
RUN
position. This is important because it will not only aid
in removal of the ignition lock, but will also place the socket (in the
lock cylinder housing) in proper alignment for the installation of the
replacement ignition lock.
Press in the lock cylinder retaining tab and remove the key cylinder (ignition lock).

Align the shaft at the end of the ignition lock cylinder with the socket in the end of the ignition lock cylinder housing.
Align the ignition lock cylinder with the grooves in the lock
cylinder housing. Push the ignition lock cylinder into the housing until
the retaining tab sticks through the opening in the lock cylinder
housing.
Turn the ignition key to the
OFF
position and remove the key.
Install the lower steering column shroud and install the mounting screws.
Place the lower steering column cover into correct position on the
lower instrument panel and engage the clip that secures the right side
of the cover to the instrument panel.

Its usually NOT the lock cylinder on the 470s, its usually the housing. The cylinder is on the dash and points towards the engine. Behind the plastic dash panel (once removed) you will see it in fact sticks in an aluminum tube that goes down 2 or 3 inches, then makes 2 turns, left to attatch to the steering column, and right to attatch to the actual ignition switch. The gear and rod assembly that the cylinder attatches to that allows it to rotate the switch usually shatters in the middle and the key starts freewheeling because there is no longer any attatchment to any of the gears or springs or click points that youd usually feel as the rotational resistance. UNFORTUNATELY this is not a 5 minute job (If it was, cars would be a breeze to steal!). Youll need at least a lock cylinder housing (dealer stock em, they break all the tyme), and IF your cylinder is undamaged, change the housing (it bolts to the steering column and extends from column towards center console area where the ignition SWITCH is actually located). If your cylinder is damaged or the housing is so shredded you cant remove the lock cylinder by normal means...then youll also need the cylinder...and it will have to be recoded to the vehicle so the anti theft will allow the new keys/cylinder to start the car. If your old cylinder and keys are intact, then transfer them to the new housing and car wont even know it happened and should start up and work as normal. Some can be removed intact, some cant...depends on how yours broke.
Here is how to remove ignition lock: Rotate ignition lock cylinder to RUN position. Using a 1/8-inch drift, depress lock cylinder retaining pin through access hole and remove lock cylinder. Carefully NOTE: the position of the bearing retainer prior to removal. Remove blue plastic bearing retainer by inserting a screwdriver or similar tool, with a 90 degree bend on the tip, between bearing retainer and bearing and by prying upward. Insert tip of a screwdriver into Double-D slot of bearing, then rotate 90 degrees. Remove bearing. Remove lock drive gear. Carefully note relationship of lock drive gear to position of rack teeth. Here is the installation: Position lock drive gear in base of lock cylinder housing in the same position as that noted during removal procedure. The position of lock drive gear is correct if last tooth on drive gear is meshed with last tooth on rack. Position bearing retainer in lock cylinder housing. Insert tip of a screwdriver into Double-D slot of bearing, then rotate 90 degrees. Press blue plastic bearing retainer into lock cylinder housing. Ensure retainer is in its original position. Line up flats of drive gear with flats of washer by pulling down on the column lock actuator. Install lock cylinder assembly. Check for proper start in PARK and NEUTRAL. Also, check to ensure start circuit cannot be actuated in DRIVE or REVERSE positions and the column is locked in LOCK position.
NOTE: The Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system must be disarmed before removing any components in the area of the air bag system. Failure to do so may cause accidental deployment of the air bag, resulting in unnecessary SIR system repairs and/or personal injury.
Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable from the battery. Allow the SIR system capacitor to discharge for at least 2 minutes, before performing any removal procedures. The air bag system is now disabled.
Remove the key cylinder (ignition lock). Using a No. 10 Torx® tamper proof bit, remove the ignition switch mounting screw. Depress the ignition switch retaining tab and carefully pry the ignition switch from the steering column. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition switch and remove the switch from the vehicle. INSTALLATION: Be sure the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the actuator shaft in the ignition lock housing is in the RUN position. Reconnect the electrical connectors to the ignition switch. Carefully install the ignition switch, making sure the ignition switch snaps over the retaining tabs. Install and tighten the ignition switch mounting screw. Install the key cylinder (ignition lock). Complete the installation by reversing the removal procedures. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Check switch operation. Good Luck and hope this helps
Grandammit...Hey...replacing a lock cylinger requires recoded ignition keys, and a new lock cylinder requires dissassembly of the steering column. Not an easy fix, and I wonder if you are really the thief..you don't sound like a 9 month pregnant girl. Sorry......if I am wrong I am wrong. Drive it with a scredriver until you give birth then fix it.
