It appears your fan itself burned out. When a field coil of an electrical fan burns out it usually makes a lot of smoke. The noise could be something that fell in there that stopped the fan from turning freely. I can imagine it heated up under the strain and burned out.

When you restarted it was burnt out so hence no noise and no fan.
The smell of the smoke should also be clue. Electrical field coils burning has an awful soury type of smell.

SOURCE: Air conditioning fan makes loud noise the faster you ru it.

Concerning your broken vent -- this can be caused by a broken linkage or a malfunctioning servo motor as well. these vent have air ducts the sway back and forth to adjust the dual air flow function. if the servo o linkages are malfunctioning or not connected for some reason, it will not allow total control of the air flow and temperature range. Now, if you have a combination of a flow error and temperature error as well, thai can be caused by a combination of the two.

In this case, you will need to inspect the linkages as well as the servo motor function as well. in addition, i would test the air temp sensors for there operational value. they control the temp when you adjust the coll or hot function.

Concerning the Loud noise coming from the blower fan---

This issue can be caused by a misalignment within the blower housing or, it can also be caused by some minor damage within the motor itself, causing it to rotate in a erratic manner, in return, forcing it to rub against the housing itself. the best solution here is to extract this blower fan housing and inspect for lose fan propeller and motor stability. replace parts accordingly.

PLease rate and have a great day:)

SOURCE: Fast clicking noise from AC vent of 99 Honda Odyssey

Yes, your theory sounds right. You'll need to remove the blower motor or a cover on it to visualize the squirrel cage and remove whatever is causing the noise. In some vehicles there is a cover under the hood, which when removed, will allow you to inspect the blower housing. If no such cover, you'll need to remove the blower motor.

SOURCE: oil consumption, rattle, engine noise

Check under the hood and inspect the valve cover gasket. If it's bad it would explain why you don't see any leaks on the ground because it's probably burning off on the manifold. This ticking you're hearing is a lack of lubrication to the rocker arms. Apart from the valve cover gasket, you should get under the car and inspect the oil pan and oil filter for seepage. Best of luck on your problem.

Had same problem. Replace Blower Motor. Over a 100 dollars at local parts store, but found online for half price. About 30 minutes to replace. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?carcode=1431961&parttype=6916
6 screws to remove glove box, One plastic nut on kick panel and 3 screws hold the blower to the air box.

What could be causing loud grinding noise when i switch on aircon? Aircon now not working but only makes loud sound.

Sounds like the bearing or part of the clutch in the A/C compressor has failed, or possibly component on a/c fouling on something due to recent repairs however would be unlikely and probably just a coincidence..

Check A/C compressor turns by hand, should be firm but not make any noises.

Check for fouling components related to a/c compressor clutch.

My heater works but makes an awful loud noise when i turn it on in my 1997 Geo Tracker. Any idea what would cause this? Since heat is coming out I assume the blower motor is working.

got A/c option?
noise can be caused by many things
from bad blower bearings, to something stuck there.
or just loose vent ratting. is just a blower. in a box and some vents and dampers. those too can get loose.
why not use a rubber hose to ear or better buy a $5 stethoscope at the autostore and find exact point it makes noise. with this tool.
also you can press on vent pipes with hands, so see if that cause the noise to stop. or get better, and you can watch the damper
lever,, to see, if they wiggle and rattle , ?

step 1: defeat air bags, (a great danger to all fidders there)

for 100% sure nobody can guess on the blind as bat forum.
get car serviced"?
could even be a dead mouse there, crawled down cowl vent
then in to heater boxes. (if a/c opted, he must stop at a/c core...)
or same for tree leave and tiny branches, working down that same top front cowl vent..
i had one that whole cowl was packed in dead tree parts.

My defroster makes a rattling noise on high speed

could be leaves in the fan getting through the wiper vents or surrounding areas over time and the heater fan needs to be removed and cleaned out....or the heater fan bushes are worn through age and the fan or bushes need replacing or maybe even the heater fan is loose in its mounting and its rubbing somewhere

Rattling noise from front near alternator

Hi.
I think the problem is the power take off for the front fan ,steering etc. Underneath the middle of the car you will see what looks like a small propshaft pointing towards the front with a doughnut shapped mounting bolted to each end. These rubber joints wear and rattle on tick over or low revs cost is about £40 for the 2 from Japarts
Takes about 2 hours to change.Hope this helps Good luck

Foriegn matter in the heating/aircon fan

remove the fan from the underneath of the glove box. could be the pieces of glass from the old wind shield.

remove the glove box cover first. then access the fan screwed on its housing . at least three screws. remove the wires to the motor first.

then check the blower wheel for the glass or rubber that makes the noise.

tnx 4 using fixya,

Loud noise

It sounds like the blower motor for the heater is shot, either bearings in the fan or electrical melt down. It's ok to drive it w/ fan off, but if u need your defroster you'll be in trouble, have a cloth ready in case u need to wipe condensation off the windows so u can see. You'll have to have the blower motor checked out to see if it's the bearings, if it is u can have it replaced. countrycurt0
