Unable to shift from 2hi to 4hi in 1999 gmc jimmy slt 4x4

I purchaced this Jimmy from a friend last may and was told everything worked fine, and that the 4x4 mode was never or seldom used back around the time it was new. Today we have had a lot of snow & I tried to engage 4hi .....is there a switch I missed or a procedure I did incorrectly? Also if it is not engaging what should I look for as the most likely solution to this problem?

    I have a 1992 gmc jimmy 4.3 vortec, I have replaced the cab switch, the transfer case switch and the vacuum switch under the battery. The 4x4 unit will work some times and is not responding at the moment. Is there another switch I should find? James

Do the lights work on selector buttons if so check actuator on transfer case may be bad or replace selector switch i just did and my four wheel drive works sometimes

My 97 Jimmy is shifted into 4hi and will not switch to 2hi, the lights flash and i hear a clicking but it wont shift
when deactivating youre four wheel drive make sure youre rig is in nautral this helps with the gears lining up. whan youre 2-hi light flashes hit a second time. Ive had this problem befor.

2000 GMC Jimmy 4x4 Switch not working and Shifting hard between 1st and 2nd
Change the switch itself if it drives normal then randomally kicks into 4 lo/4 hi i had the same problem and a transmission shop told me it was the vaccum and the transfer case but one of my mechanic friends told me that it was my switch and shops only tell you other things for the money. Try changing the switch.

4Hi won't switch back to 2Hi
First try hitting the 2HI when in nuetral. If that doesn't work put the vehicle in reverse and hit the 2HI switch and tap the brakes at the same time. Usual if you do this, when you put it into drive it will release.

HOW DO I PUT A 1998 GMC JIMMY IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE?, DO I HAVE BE IN "PARK" OR CAN I CHANGE IT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE WHILE IM DRIVING?
You should be able to put in 4x4 while in drive less than 35mph. Mine had a switch to turn to engage or dis-engage.

4x4 not shifting into high
hi how are you doing? just had same problem with by gmc i replaced the transfurcase motor and it works fine. the electric motor moves the shifter in your transfurcase from 4hi to 4lo and 2hi.there is only 3 things that operate your 4x4 the switch the motor and the control modgual.

On my 2000 chevy S10 blazer, when I push the 4HI button, the 4HI and 4LO buttons flash a yellow light and it won't shift to 4WD, stays in 2HI and the light in the 2HI button is on yellow......I hear...
vacuum leak or vacuum locker solenoid problem. a great way to check for both is to remove both vacuum lines from the solenoid (located on firewall above destributor), and put a connector between them, push the button on the dash and see if it locks in.

Won't shift into 4 wheel drive mode at all / 2000 GMC Jimmy SLT
I have had the same problem with my 2000 jimmy. Disconnect the battery for approx 1 minute and then reconnect, this should reset the computer. It has worked for me every time. I was told it was a glitch with GMC.

Jimmy wont lock in four wheel drive.
