SOURCE: the best way to change a 1989 mazda 626 fuel pump without a car lift

the fuel pump is under the back seat. you can lift the bottom of the seat forward and pull up the carpet and get to the fuel pump.

Im not an expert by any means but it sounds like you are running out of fuel in the combustion chamber (or lean) and setting off the cars knock sensor. It seems to me there are several fuel pumps available on ebay eluding to the fact that they were a weak component. be extremely careful "pinging" is extremely BAD for the pistons and block. keep out of hard boost until you solve issue.

If the relay is working, and you can feel or hear the relay click when the key is turned on. Then the problem could be a fuse. Or, some cars, for instance, don't allow fuel on, if spark is not working.

Hey there i have a mazda gtx 1989 dohc turbo and my fan will nt got on its own i have replaced the sender but still nothing i can here the relay clicking on and off but still the fan is nt going
check the relay contact inside. maybe only the relay coil working but not the contact. may replace the relay as well.

Two things...
You should follow the pin numbers and not the color code.
Second
Check online for a service manual from Japan or the USA for that car. We got many Mazda imports here and there should be a lot of books on Ebay that would have the electrical schematics for a 323 from the USA and Canada.
You are going to have to just buy a book and have it shipped to NZ.
