Best bet is to talk with the local Volvo service manager..or a skilled mechanic. Normally, I don't think any real service is needed, unless there is a problem. Changing oil every 3K is good..not racing the car (turbo) just as you start up or shut it down is helpful too.

Replacing a starter on a 1993 volvo 940 turbo. Is this a difficult task?

It looks easy for the 940 but I am not sure about the 940 turbo, as maybe some of the turbo parts are in the way. I'm not sure about that, since there is no documentation on the turbo model vs. the 940 standard model. If you can follow the following instructions, then I would give it a whirl.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - 1993 Volvo 940
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery.
  2. Disconnect the leads from the starter motor.
  3. Remove the starter motor retaining bolts.
  4. Remove the starter motor from the vehicle. To install:
  5. Position the starter motor to the flywheel housing.
  6. Apply locking compound to the bolt threads and install the retaining bolts finger-tight.
  7. Tighten the bolts to approximately 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  8. Connect the starter motor leads and the negative battery cable. Fig. 1: Unfasten the nut retaining the starter cables . . . 90952p12.jpg

Code 1-1-3 volvo 940 turbo

The code seems to point to the camshft actuator circuit. Namely the Oil Control Valve. Probably needs replacement. I do not know the location on your vehicle. I suggest you ask a mechanic or try to find it online.

My volvo 940 1993 keeps flashing the emission light when I restart warm car after a short trip - slow to start, need to give it some gas & rev

Sounds like you need an O2 sensor. You need to have it scanned, places like AutoZone will do this free of charge.
