2003 ranger.the hood will not open. i think cable is loose /broke

How do i open the hood.i pull on th hood release and it sounds like it does not release the hood will not lift any.

    I know a bit.When I look at the latches for the hood it appears the cable has came off the latch on the right or back part of the latch connection.The release/lever looks like it will work. its just that the hood will not pop up to use the release.Its as if the inside cab lever pull does not unlock the hood for you to lift it a little and then use the relese lever to do the final release of the hood.

    Wow.I held the latch open with a flashlight wedged up against the brake pedal and then ran around to the front and pushed down on the hood and it raised up enough for me to get a hold of the release latch and the hood opened. that was great ,thank you so much for your assitance in this problem. I would have never thought of that . I recommend this site and bilvg101 for their advice .AAA++++++

    wow, I wish I could help. If the cable has broken your in a pickle, we have to do this a lot, If you have an understanding of how it works you can get it open. I will try to help, but you have to comunicate what you know about cars in general, and your expertise so I can help you OK?

    The hood wont open - the cable seems to have failed. How can I open it?

You will need 2 people to get the hood open. While you pull on the hood release cable have an assistant gently pound on the center of the hood until it pops up. If this does not work, inspect the hood release lever to see if the pivot broken, if so pull directly on the cable with a pair of locking pliers. After you get the hood open make sure to spray the latch with penetrating oil (WD40)

Pull the release and have someone hit the hood with there hand in the middle of the hood, by the latch/front. Then adjust the latch upwards. If the cable is broke then go from the bottom and push the release left or right to release. Follow the cable.

Cannot open hood on 1998 Ford Ranger with cable release inside cab.
You will have to removethe front grill. After you get it off look up to were the release is you should see the cable and were it hooded to you will need to pull to the drivers side on the cable hook up point and this will open it.

Handle inside will not open the hood....
I'm going to tell you how( thinking the handle inside the car broke). This handle is made of plastic(replacement handle is a dealer item, pay to much for it), and the cable behind it usually breaks at the plastic connector. you need a pair of vise grips. attach the vice grips to the cable, and pull. It will release the hood. Now if the cable itself broke going to the hood, you will have to remove the grill( is held in place by screws). Remove the grill, and you will be able to pull the release pin on the hood latch, releasing the hood. hope this helps, and please rate, helpful or not

The hood release handle on my 1998 ford taurus broke now i can not open the hood.
if it broke at handle at dash use pliers and find any exposed cable use pliers if it broke under hood then i reccomend taking it to a shop if you can get latch throught the grill try to pry cable loose ans pull it

Interior hood release broke out around mounting bolt. Temporary mounted release but still can not release hood. No opening problems until now. How do I get the open?
If just the mounting broke & not the cable also, take a pair of vicegrips or good pliers on visible portion of steel cable & pull inward. If the cable itself is not broken it will pull out enough to open release.

The hood latch cable broke under the hood how can i open it
Saturn Vue hood release can be opened (if the cable is not broken) by disconnecting the cable from the back of the release lever, grabbing the ball on the end of the cable with some large pliers ("channel locks") and pulling hard. A metal "wire keeper" bracket clamped to the cable end under the hood to serve as a spacer and the release lever works.
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide a procedure for opening the hood on the Saturn VUE and ION vehicles should the hood latch release cable mechanism become inoperative.
VUE Hood Opening Procedure Modify the Saturn radio antenna by bending the antenna mast 1 in. (2.54 cm) above the antenna base to a 25 degree angle
Open hood of similar vehicle to locate hood latch release cable to hood latch attachment point.
Using modified antenna, note approximate location that antenna will have to enter in between fascia and hood to access the hood latch cable attachment point. This should be toward the left edge of the Saturn emblem. Also note position of the modified antenna base. It should be angled downward.
Note: Use protective tape on the hood and fascia where the antenna will be inserted to protect the surfaces from scratches
On vehicle with inoperative latch, insert antenna between hood and fascia and depress the hood latch cable until the hood is opened.

Hood release broke
you are going to have to either remove the panneling to get at the cable and pull it with vise grip or try to get up inside the hood from the front and release the latch that way . either way is going to be tough to get to.
