BMW X3 transmission

I have a problem with my x3 2004 model with 4x4 light staying on and thumping noise on lower gears. Is this a transmission problem or electronics component connected to the differential? The sound has become louder lately and i am afraid that it might have to replace the whole transmission. One diagnostic showed some fault with a OXB (not sure) box or something. What can i do?

Hi. I would suggest having the transfer case motor actuator checked for a stripped gear. I usually remove the transfer motor actuator and take the cover off to inspect the plastic gear inside. If the gear is stripped, it can be replaced.

SOURCE: lost keys require new locks for BMW X3

replacing the complete lock set with the EWS control unit can be expensive as the control unit will also need to be programed and/or encoded, however if the lost keys cannot be found and you are sure they cannot be used to steel you car you can just order replacement keys from your local bmw dealer. hope this is of some help. You will also nead to disable the lost keys if you order replacements rather than a complete set.

SOURCE: BMW E46 fault code P2799 - what does it mean

If is for a 3 series compact (318ti most common) then
P2799 is the intake air tem sensor 2
Which would explain the high idleing. Probably a sensor problem (bmw will charge) a competant mechanic should do it easily.

Help Please ...2004 bmw x3 the eml light the brake light and the 4x4 light come and the vehicle dies in traffic

Read out the error Codes ( poss. 2750 and/or 2751 ?).
It could well be that the throttlebody or maybe cables/plug connection is causing this problem and the 4x4 as the dsc may also be disrupted (error Code 5f1d ?) if the throttlebody function is defective. Try cleaning it & check all its electricals are good. Clear the faults and test drive. If you're still getting transferbox problems, check the actuator/plastic gear and maybe change the transferbox oil AND reset the adaptions.
Hope this helps

Hi when my bmw x3 2004 model is in 2 gear and it must change to 3 gear it goes in limp mode

Just a guess, but your transmission might be throwing out a code that there is an issue with it shifting into 3rd gear. I would suggest taking it to a repair shop that is capable of scanning the computer to figure out what the issue is...

My BMW 2002 starts out good in morning but when it gets warm or hot my transmission failsafe light comes on what can I do

BMW has been using electronically controlled automatic transmissions in most models since the late '80s. These transmission systems employ a transmission control unit which controls electrical solenoids to manipulate the various control and shift valves and functions in the transmission valve-body. When the transmission control unit detects a problem that it "thinks" could be damaging to the transmission or engine, it goes into a fail-safe or "limp" mode. In this mode, the transmission will function in reverse normally, but in forward it will operate in only one gear (whether you have the shifter in D, or any of the lower gears). This will typically be 3rd or 4th gear, depending on the model. It will start in this gear and stay in this gear with no shifting. You would experience this as sluggish acceleration and higher than normal engine speed at about 40-mph and above.
If you must drive the vehicle when the transmission is in the fail-safe mode, accelerate gently and keep the road speed lower than full highway speed.
Earlier models do not employ fault codes and must be diagnosed manually. Late models do employ fault codes and a diagnostic/scan machine can be used to check and read the faults to assist in diagnostics. Note that this is not your common OBD-II engine management fault code tool. This is what A BMW dealer or a properly equipped independent shop would have for full vehicle system diagnostics and coding operations.

2009 BMW X-3.0i SAV AirBag, 4X4 & the BRaKe DashBoard Light's are ON @ SaMe TiMe ???

Does it have a funny clicking noise that you can hear underneath the car? If so , then the transfer case motor plastic gear is stripped. You can buy a new one at the dealer for a mere $1300 , or one on ebay for about $900, or if you are handy, you can buy just the gear on ebay for about $25 bucks, take the motor out and change the gear. There are good youtube videos of how to do this. I did this on a 2007 x3 and it wasn't too painful.
