Need belt diagram for 2002 Mercury sable

The vin number has a letter or number which indicates engine size and type. I think its the 8th digit of your vin on a merc. Call any for or mercury or ford dealer and ask for the parts department. Give them your vin number and they will answer your question. ( Go ahead and have one of the 3 gurls do it because it makes the guys feel smart ) Autozone can also answer this question but due to their lack of training at times you best call 3 autozones to get the correct answer.

The drivebelt diagram for a 2002 ecort zx2 is enclosed. please note that the escort came with two engines i have enclosed both belt diagrams, you can use the diagrams to find yours by looking at the pulley locations or using the engine vin # located on the diagram, to find yours you will need to count the vin # of your car, this is located on your insurance card or on the drivers door next to latch or bottom of windsheild on the driverside, you will count from left to right to 8th digit and thats the eng code digit. good day.

Well, there are actually two different 3.0L engines used in a 2003 Mercury Sable. One is an Overhead-Valve (OHV) type engine. The other is a Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) 24-valve engine. You can tell the difference by just looking at the engine or by checking the 8th digit in your VIN. For the OHV engine the 8th digit of the VIN will be a "U" and the DOHC engine will be an "S".

This is important information when it comes to getting parts or information for your vehicle.

For the 6 cylinder 4.0 Liter EFI (electronic fuel injection) SOHC (single overhead cam) engine
(8th digit of VIN = "E"), and
the 8 cylinder 5.0Liter EFI engine (8th digit og VIN="P"):

1. relieve fuel system pressure
2. remove/disconnect:
NEG. battery cable
bolts holding fuel filter shield
fuel lines (3 of them) - labeled (1) in above diagram
fuel filter (labeled (2) in above diagram - from its support

Installation is the reverse of removal, but torque the fuel filter shield bolts to 15 ft-lb. (20 Nm).
And, if you're as careful as I am, apply anti-sieze to the bolt threads before they go in.

There are also two serpentine belt types for the 2002 sable. The S and U type engine. Take the old belt with you the the parts store. As for the diagram, I googled it under images and about a dozen correct ones came up. Remember the 2002 sable is the same as the 2002 Tarus.
