1998 Chrysler Sebring front end squeak

The front end of my Sebring makes a squeaking/groaning noise while turning. The steering wheel also shimmys whenever I brake at higher speeds. The noise goes away whenever the car is jacked up off the ground so the mechanics always give me a blank stare afterwards. Ive heard several theories from ball joints to cv boots and am looking for more advice.

Have tie-rods checked. What happens is the tie-rods move when braking causing tires and front end to shimmy. Another problem could be worn spring or shock mounts. The reason the noise goes away when vehicle is off ground is because it's not under load

It could be a powersteering leak. Sometimes there is a shaft seal under the steering column inside that needs to be greased because f squeaks. The brake problem is from warped rotors, most likely the front since you feel it in the steering wheel.

SOURCE: 2001 chrysler sebring ball joint (boot) repair

I do not believe that the balljoint is causing the squeak. Take your car to an independent mechanic that you trust. dealerships are notorius for mis-diagnosing (it begins with the intake person describing the problem wrong).

More than likely, the squeak is coming from a worn rubber bushing or mount. Check the exhast pipe hangers for worn rubber. Also check the anti-sway bar bushings and the motor mounts. You should be able to replace these with ordinary tools (assuming you have safe access to the botom of the car - i.e. jack stands). Also check the control arm bushings (these would require an expert, or a pro to replace).

If the balljoint boot is cracked, you can prolong the ball joint life by keeping it well greased. If grease is oozing out the crack, then the balljoint is protected. Replacing the balljoint boot requires separating the wheel spindle from the control arm and can be very dangerous because of the strut spring. This should be left to the expert, or professional mechanic. Also, if the ball joint is squeaking, it needs to be replaced.

If you still want to tackle this yourself, buy a Chilton or similar book (under $10) specifically for your car. They have good instructions and diagrams.

2007 cadillac esclade ext front end squeaking.

well it can still be anything, locating a steering/suspension noise can be hard. Based on what you typed, what first comes to mind is the steering pump is worn out. If it is more of a low whining sound instead of squeaking, its probably the steering pump.

Front end noise

Squeaking CV Axle bearings... Bad CV axles are expected to click but they can also on rare occasions squeak... I know because I had that experience with a 1984 Sentra when doing a U or close turn only. Other parts that could theorically squeak at low speed, and depending on the condition and brake pad material.. would be warped disks or glazed brake pads... but at low turning speed, the CV Axle is more likely.

Seabring frontend squeaksonly when i turn the wheels 04 four door

These problems normally point to component wear, lack of lubrication. or an incorrect adjustment.
You must inspect and test the steering system to locate the source of the trouble. just make sure the parts on front end are lubricated. check the front struts, sometimes if the upper plate goes bad, it will make noises. just check it out. you will find the squeaks !

It squeaks like a 50 year old vehicle. The front end squeaks even if ur not moving, just turning the steering wheel it will squeak then driving

Hi!
Check the power steering fluid level, if OK, your power steering pump may need to be replaced. If in doubt, take vehicle to and AutoZone or similar autoparts store and have one of the attendants check it out.

2004 Mazda tribute steering wheel squeaking

Well a steering flush would not necessarily be related to squeaking.

So, you need to locate exactly where the sound is coming from...
It really sounds like steering wheel turning and resistance causes the noise, is this constant, or only while actually turning the wheel?

Likely it would be semi constant, so that would focus you on the assist portion... Be careful around all moving parts, but you need to locate the source.

Try taking a section of heater hose, and listen through one end and move carefully around with the other end and see what you find. Likely something under the hood, with your note about window open...

Now, if the squeaking stops when the steering wheel stops turning, now steering components are suspect.... So, again, louder with window down makes me think outside and in front...I would stand in front of the car, have your handy assistant actuate the steering wheel, and you decide which side, right or left.... Suspect items that squeak only during steering wheel input include, amongst other things, the entire strut, all ball joint, including joints in the steering linkage.... Be sure to keep clear of moving parts, your handy assistant would not know they they are crushing you, while truning the wheel......
