1996 BMW 318i passenger electric window wont roll up

Very cold here in minnesota. last night tried to open my passenger door, got it budged open a little bit but was froze shut. when i came out in the morning my window was making a weird noice so i rolled it down a little bit with the intention of rolling it back up. i pushed the electric button it cluncked down and now wont roll up. the small window on the same side still works fine. All other windows work fine as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

I have the same issue right now (thank goodness for a garage!) I rolled down my passenger side window and it made a big clunk and dropped down a bit. I have a feeling that the window has come off of it's track inside the door frame, but I have no idea how to fix it. I would love to find some sort of guide for taking apart the door and fixing it, but any suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

SOURCE: very loud noice in brakes

its possible that one of the caliper piston has seized.
to fix this remove the wheel and take out the pads and try and force the piston back(it takes some elbow grease), then bleed the brake that has seized if this does not work replace the caliper (breakers yard??)

You can try a different switch. If both switches have same effect, then the motor is wearing out and will need to be replaced. The door panel will have to be removed to access the motor

When I went out to my 2012 Grand Caravan this morning, my two manual side doors would not open. Everything was unlocked, but neither one would budge.

do your doors lock when you put the van in gear , that is what happened ,when you tried to close the door it released , and now you can open the door,.

My son drove our 1999 318i. when he tried to open the door using the key fob it wont unlock. when he tried using the manual key on the driver's side, the mechanism broke. the car wont open. how do we open...

I don't know that this will work, but try using the key and opening the door at the same time, both sides, this procedure works for locked doors and a dead battery, hope this helps, let me know.

Passenger window is off track

Cars whether foreign or domestic are all basic in nature, the problem is most likely a broken window regulator or something in the door became loose.

Electric window close just half way only

hello velazqj, sounds like maybe the window regulator is binding, or possibly the window motor itself. Try helping the window up by pulling up on the glass when closing and see if it closes fully. If you hear any funny grinding or crunching noises, the regulator has most likely failed. The regulator is a scissor design and the motor is directly bolted to it. I would recommend removing the door panel and having both inspected.

depending on how the car is set, the unlock may have to be depressed twice to unlock the passenger door. i'm guessing you have already tried this? if not give it a shot.

if that didn't fix it, then sit in the car and hit the unlock button twice and see if you hear the passenger door unlock/lock mechanism trying to unlock the door. if you can hear it trying to pop the lock, then it may be an issue with the cold. my '99 323 was this way in the cold. if you can't hear it trying to pop the lock, then the module in that door is bad.

also when was the last time BMW replaced the battery in that key?

good luck.
