How do you find the rear a/c actuator in 2003 Mercury mountaineer

There is a thumping or clicking noise in the driver's side rear panel (inside it sounds like) If i put my hand on the area I can feel it. Just started today and when I began looking up the problem I found that this just might be the problem. Just don't know exactly where to look, or what it looks like or what to check for.

The rear blend door opens and closes to regulate air temperature. It's operated by a small electric motor. So the problem can be a stuck door, bad linkage (if your model uses linkage) or a bad motor. Bad motor is most common failure, but they usually fail in one position, not the clicking state. You'll have to remove the trim panel from the rear heater assembly. Then just follow the wires to a flat black box and listen for the noise. That'll be the actuator. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the screws that hold it in place. Then try moving the door by hand. If it moves freely, then the actuator is bad. Replace it.

2003 Mercury Mountaineer Electrical Problems?!?!?!

O/D light flashing is telling there is a problem with the transmission an trouble codes are stored . The clicking you hear in the rear climate control system is mode door or blend door actuator . There is no accumulator in the rear A/C system . If the A/C system had a accumulator it would be in the engine compartment . Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop.

2003 mountioneer 4.6 v8 i get a thumping noise from air box off &on

There is a mod for this problem. Insert a 1/2" copper pipe cap with a 1/4" hole drilled in the cap, into the rubber IAC pipe. This restriction helps fix high idle and thumping from IAC valve. Ford has a "muffler in line" fix for this issue, but for a $.50 copper cap, why give $50 to Ford engineers.

Heat does not work, makes loud clicking noise when turned on...2003 Mercury Mountaineer..how do I fix this?

I have a 2003 Mountaineer that had the same symptoms. After doing some research, me and Google decided it was the Blend Door Actuator. It is a fairly difficult job due to having to take pretty much the whole dash off, but I did it myself with minimal experience. I included a few links.
