CAUTION Observe all applicable safety precautions when working around fuel. Whenever servicing the fuel system, always work in a well ventilated area. Do NOT allow fuel spray or vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher near the work area. Always keep fuel in a container specifically designed for fuel storage; also, always properly seal fuel containers to avoid the possibility of fire or explosion.
There are two types of fittings used on fuel filter connections. The banjo fitting or union bolt type uses a bolt and two washers to prevent leakage between an eyelet and the filter. The flare fitting type uses no washers or bolts. It uses a thread interference pattern to make a tight connection.

  1. Unbolt the retaining screws and remove the protective shield (if equipped) for the fuel filter.
  2. Place a pan under the delivery pipe (large connection) to catch the dripping fuel and SLOWLY loosen the banjo fitting bolt or flare fitting at the bottom of the filter to bleed off the fuel pressure.

CAUTION To avoid personal injury, remember that the fuel system is under pressure. Release pressure slowly and contain spillage. Wear eye protection and observe no smoking/no open flame precautions. Have a dry powder fire extinguisher within arm's reach at all times.

  1. Remove the banjo bolt or flare fitting and drain the remaining fuel.
  2. Disconnect and plug the inlet line.
  3. Unbolt and carefully remove the fuel filter. It may still contain some fuel.

To install:
When tightening the fuel line bolts to the fuel filter, you must use a torque wrench. The tightening torque is very important, as under or over tightening may cause fuel leakage. Insure that there is sufficient clearance between the fuel filter, lines and any other parts.
  1. Coat the flare or banjo bolt threads along with the copper washers lightly with engine oil. Always use new washers.
  2. Hand tighten the inlet line to the fuel filter.
  3. Install the fuel filter then tighten the banjo type bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm) or the flare fitting on the fuel pump side to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm) and all others to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).

WARNING The fuel pump builds high pressure within the lines. If new gaskets are NOT used, a high-pressure leak may sprai need a picture of my motor in my celica gt 2000 - 0996b43f802094dd.jpgne or other hot surface.
  1. Run the engine for a few minutes and check for any fuel leaks.
  2. Install the protective shield if removed.

Negative battery cable. On vehicles equipped with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before proceeding Protective shield for the fuel filter If necessary, air cleaner hose and cap If necessary, charcoal canister. New fuel filter Banjo fitting with a new metal gasket on each side and install the union bolt. Bolt: 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). Flare nut to the lower connection. Nut: 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). Charcoal canister Air cleaner hose and cap Protective shield Negative battery cable

In the engine bay, on the firewall, behind the engine if it's a 2.7L I4. It'll be tricky to change due to space constraints.

Removal Fuel Pump

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  1. Remove the rear seat cushion.
  2. Unscrew the service hole cover.
  1. Disconnect the electrical fuel pump wiring at the pump assembly. Check for any fuel leakage while in there.
  1. Remove the gas cap, this will prevent any fuel gas spilling out of any high pressure lines.
  2. Using SST 09631-22020 or an equivalent line (flare nut) wrench, disconnect the outlet pipe from the pump bracket.
  1. Remove the pump bracket attaching screws.
  2. Disconnect the return hoses from the pump bracket, then pull out the pump/bracket assembly.

  2. Inspect all of the lines, hoses and fittings for any sign of corrosion, wear or damage to the surfaces. Check the pump outlet hose and the filter for restrictions.
  3. When reassembling, ALWAYS replace the sealing gaskets with new ones. Also replace any rubber parts showing any sign of deterioration.
To install:
  1. To assemble the pump:
    1. Secure and install a new gasket, connector and support with the screws.
    2. Attach the sensor and secure the screws, connect the wiring to the pump bracket.
    3. Install the pump filter using a new clip.
    4. Connect the outlet hose to the pump.
    5. Install the rubber cushion to the fuel pump. Push the lower side of the pump into place to secure on the bracket.
    6. Engage the connector to the fuel pump.

  2. Install the fuel sending unit to the pump bracket.
  3. Install the fuel pump and bracket assembly onto the tank. Use new gaskets. Tighten the pump bracket retaining screws to 31 inch lbs. (3 Nm).

How do you get a rear main seal off. A friend siad you can use a scew driver to pop it off this is a toyota celica gt 2002 oh and what do you look for on the seal to determine it is bad will it only be...

Changing a rear main seal is a major repair. The transmission must be separated from the motor to get to it. The way you know a rear main seal is bad is that it will be leaking oil between the back of the engine and the front of the transmission. If it is not leaking oil, then leave it alone. If it is leaking then you have two options. Have some replace it by doing what I have just told you (call around, its probably pretty expensive). Or you can do what I would do, Just check your oil ALL the time and add oil when you need to. Put some cardboard under your car where the oil drips and leave it alone until you want to spend the money.

2000 Celica GT-S. Engine 'bucking' anywhere from idle to wot

locate the mass air flow sensor. it's located inline with the air intake. it should be right after the air filter. disconnect the plug and see if the car runs better. also, when tapping on it lightly on the sensor with a screwdiver handle and the engine skips, could also indicate a bad sensor. these sensors will not always set the check engine light. suspecting the fuel system is also a possibility

2004 toyota celica will not blow hot air for twenty minutes

If the engine temprature does not reach the normal level as it used to, it may be the coolant thermostat.

Iif it does, it could be air diverter gates not working properly, cold air blowing at a a light could point to that. The diverter gates are located under the dash.

It also coul be the valuve that controls the water to the heater core, but unlikely cause of the cold air at a light.

Air blower stop on AC , unable to locate fuses Please help

I really doubt it is the fuse, more likely the blower rmotor speed dropping resistor or the motor itself is defective, the motor is under the dash on the passenger/ right side, the blower motor resistor is near it in the air ducting, see photo below.

Need to know how to adjust the valves in my 2000 toyota celica?

Additionally, if you know about shims, you know that if you need a .345, it is possible that the .345 is not obtainable, the possibilities available could be either .340 and a .350 ...
(rough numbers)

Then, you need to pull the head, and let a machine shop do it the hard way.

If the valves aren't clacking all of the time, leave them alone.
Thanks for choosing FixYa for advice.
