Could be the crank sensor is bad but If the check engine light does NOT come on when cranking at the times when it won't start, then your ECU is in need of repair. The engine will only start after the check engine light comes on and the ecu is what controls that. It's likely going bad, causing the delayed start problem typical of early 90's jeeps. Repair or replacement services for your jeep ECU are available on ebay.

What all have you checked as initial steps? Have you checked the fuel filter as first and foremost step and also Is the check engine light ON?

SOURCE: cranks but won't start sometimes.

From what i've seen over the years with the Chryslers i've encountered. Your describing to the "T" what appears to be a bad Crank Sensor. I will bet money that if you replace the crank sensor it will solve your problem. BUT...Also know that a bad fuel pump can do exactly what you describe in your statement. Once the pump get hot it gets to acting stupid, but yet again so can the Crank Sensor. Still, my money is on the Crank Sensor.

SOURCE: 1992 jeep Laredo keeps blowing 30 amp eng. cntrl

  • Hi, I can help.

  • You a direct short somewhere that is blowing the auto shutdown fuse as soon as a completed circuit is attempted.

  • Look at the connectors and wiring for your Oxygen sensors. Your shutdown relay is wired into them as well. Try removing the connector to one O2 sensor at a time and try to start the Jeep. The ones towards the back seem to rub through from the drive shaft. If the fuse does not blow then that wiring is your problem. This has been a big pain to people who own your Jeep.

  • Make sure to have plenty or the 30 Amp fuses for testing because it will continue to blow until you find the wire with negated insulation and re-insulate it so it does not short anymore. Make sure to never use a bigger fuse. Only the proper Amp fuse every time.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here and I will respond to you.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

SOURCE: cherokee won't start it cranks but won't

i dont know if this helps, but i know in some models, the security issue is caused by the key itself. if there is an rfid chip in the key and it is not responding to the computer, the motor will not start. try using your VIN to get a new key made at a dealership.

Sounds like a problem with the key switch, probably the security system. You may only have power to the fuel pump when the engine is cranking.
Is the security light on or flashing ?

Driving in 105 degree temp, truck quits! What happened?

If the engine won't crank with compression in the cylinders, either the head gasket has blown or something else major has happened.
You will have to get it towed to a shop.
If it cranks normally but won't start, you have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
Did the temp gauge show it was overheating before it died ?

If it won't crank, check clutch safety switch and cables for the starter.
If it cranks but won't start, you'll need to find out if it is ignition or fuel to know where to look next.

Going70 MPH cut off & won't crank

@ items of concern spark or fuel. For spark as you crank the engine ,assuming that you have a tach on the dash.Does the tach show movement(this will be very small) if it does you have a fuel problem if it doesnt then you will need a crank position sensor

I have a 1998 Chevy Cavalier that I can not figure out why it won't start. The following list of parts are brand new: Battery, PCM, Park Neutral Safety Switch, Alternator, Ignition Switch, and finally...

Your car has a sealed transmission, in order to check it you have to go to the dealer or a transmission

shop, its not owner servicable. takes dextron vi, 4 speed 7.4 quarts, 3 speed 4quarts

And as far as the no start, are your plugs getting voltage, if not check your coil, if there is no spark

to your plugs the car will not fire up. good luck!
