Same thing just happened to my 2008. I was driving to work and suddenly, no gears available (1-5 or reverse). Had it towed. Mechanic says linkage is connected and working. Has to drop the transmission. Minimum cost is $1,200.00!!!!!

SOURCE: 2001 FORD FOCUS SHIFTER CABLE SNAPED

You did not need to remove the heater box to replace the cable. There is a hole in the floor the cable passes through.

SOURCE: Transmission fluid leaking from bell housing when in gear.

If you have never done this before,it may be best to take the truck to a shop or have some one with experience help you. You will need the truck up far enough to take out the transmission. The linkage and drive shaft has to be removed, then unbolt the transmission from the bell housing.Special tools may be needed to pull and replace the seal.
Transmission fluid needs to be changed since it is a brownish color.

2007 500. Shifter broke inside is a plastic. Plunger that has stuck and wont engage park or let my keys come out how do i bypass this

You disconnect it down at the transmission, and move the linkage manually. Doing so manually will engage the "park" position on the trans itself, but the wiring to release the key is connected directly to that shifter. The only way to "bypass" would be (_after_ disconnecting the linkage to the trans), disassemble the entire shifter from the console. You will find a switch. You simply need to engage the switch (or disengage it, depending on what position "park" would put the switch into)... Then you can remove the key. Seems to me it's easier to remove the car battery and simply use spare keys to lock the doors, until you can obtain a replacement shifter. You can even "block" the tires to prevent motion if you don't want to mess with the trans linkage until after you obtain a replacement shifter. (If I was there I'd get that to shift. I've done it before. I just can't explain how to do it. It's a pain-in-the-rear-jury-rig process, but it can be done).

2003 ford transit turbo manual gearbox, stuck in 2nd gear, cant start

does the clutch push normally or is the linkage broken not disengaging clutch, and then does shifter move around or locked and wont move, loose linkage in shifter or gears are jammed inside transmission and something went, if shifter wont move at all then trans is jammed inside and needs repair.

I have a 1998 ranger manual tran will change gears but wont go in to 5 gear hard to shift

The ball on the Shifter that mounts on the TOP of the transmission is worn and needs to be replaced in order to get the Complete throw (Movement) of the shifter. It is an easy repair, 8 screws to take the cover off, 4 bolts on the cover and then pull up the shifter and replace the ball

Shifter doesnt lock all the way into gear, the gear is engaged but doesnt lock in

Depending on the vehicle the shifter cable (from shifter to trans) is stretched and needs to be replaced, Common on super duty and expedition

Replace the light for reversing

There are generally two bulbs, one on each side of the rear end, which light up when you put the car in reverse. Maybe both are bad? There is also a light switch attached to your gear shifter, may well be part of a larger switch unit which precludes you from engaging the starter unless you are in park or neutral. I would start by checking the bulbs, then ask a dealer to show you what the switch looks like and where it is located. If the back up lights flicker a bit as you jostle the shifter I would suspect the switch.

I have a 2003 LR Ford Focus Manual 1.8. While driving and changing gears, I lost all gears the car is is neutral with no feeling of selecting any gears.

sounds like your shifter cable came off at the transmission or the cable is broke. You hould be able to see the cable on top of the trans. Have some try to shift while you see if the cable moves.
