Hi there:Here's a little information on it and some things to check...

p1494 code - 7_31_2012_7_04_40_pm.gif

For more information see if you can get a copy of this Technical Service Bulletin from your local Mitsubishi dealer.

NO.: TSB-98-13-012
DATE: September, 1998
MODEL: 1996-97 Eclipse 2.0L Non-Turbo

SUBJECT:
Evaporative Emission Control Leak Detection System Diagnosis

PURPOSE:
This bulletin describes the operation of the evaporative emission control leak detection system and how to diagnose diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) relevant to this system (DTCs 183, 184, 187, 160, and 161).

I think the whine you hear while turning the steering wheel is a P/S system that's low on fluid or a P/S pump starting to go bad.

The rattle under the dash could be anything from loose change to a loose component.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

What else, Check Engine Light, P0505, p0135, p0155, p1494 codes?

You can not work on a vehicle as your doing

Your checking for generic codes only & throwing
parts at it

You get a couple possible worn or failed parts & have
a few less codes

There is no need to clear ALL Data every time you change a part

You need to STOP

You need professional scan tool software to look at ALL data & go for a road test first

You keep clearing stored data ,so now the process will take longer

You work one code & one system at a time

NO PARTS get replaced that are not tested & found to fail
a test,thus a worn out part.

You need both Factory Emission & Diagnostic Manual, as well
as Wiring Diagram Book-- BEFORE-- you can even walk to the vehicle (Helm.Com)

You have nothing to go by,no system knowledge & no trouble charts,& no wiring diagrams to start your testing

If you got no scan tool & no volt meter & no oscilloscope,
your done, vehicles have to be tested to find a problem, any
problem,resolve it & continue on.

Engine light stays on code p1494

P1494 code is a leak detection pump switch or mechanical fault, leak detection pump switch does not respond to input. The leak detection pump (if equipped) is located under the air filter housing on models through 2001. Check if the vapor and vacuum lines are securely connected to the leak detection pump or a diagonstic trouble code my be set like this. The leak detection pump switch may be bad and need replaced.

Check engine light is on, and OT sensor code is P1494 was diagnosed.

P1494 - LEAK DETECTION PUMP SWITCH OR MECHANICAL FAULT . There is a service bulletin for certain years pertaining to this problem . Some cars will fill the vacuum line going to the LDP with oil , causing this dtc to trip . In most cases you can clear this and it won't come back-also, check your gas cap, it needs to seal the system, if it is loose or leaks, it can set this code.

P1494

The Dodge P1494 engine light code means Leak Detection Pump Switch or Mechanical Fault. A proper diagnosis must be done, you can't simply replace the LDP and expect that to fix the problem. It shouldn't hurt anything to keep driving it for a while until you can get it fixed.
There is a technical service bulletin that applies to your vehicle and it mentions that code specifically. I'm including it here for your information: TSB-18-01-00
SUBJECT: Misdiagnosed Leak Detection Pump Systems With DTC P1494, P0442, P0455, OR P0456.
MODELS: 1997 - 2000 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/LHS/300M/Vision and others
DISCUSSION:
During evaporative system diagnosis, Leak Detection Pumps have mistakenly been replaced. A thorough inspection for pinched, kinked, or disconnected supply vacuum lines (as currently listed in the Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures) is a critical step in diagnosing DTC P1494 (LDP SW OR MECHANICAL FAULT). Additionally, the other evaporative leak faults (DTC P0442 - SMALL LEAK, P0455 - LARGE LEAK, and P0456 - VERY SMALL LEAK) should have the supply vacuum lines examined for pinches or kinks prior to any LDP component replacement. The supply vacuum lines should be checked from the engine compartment all the way to the fuel tank, including the LDP and purge system.

NOTE: VERIFY ALL RELATED SUPPLY VACUUM LINE ROUTINGS FOR PINCHES, KINKS, OR DISCONNECTION'S BEFORE REPLACING LDP SYSTEM COMPONENTS.

Hope helps (remember rated and comment this).
