Transmission wont get into overdrive or reverse.

My 1999 chevrolet 1500 4x4 wont get into overdrive when driving down the road and the reverse wont engage at all.it has apprx. 130000 miles on it and has been very well maintained.any suggestions other than to put a new tranny.

I had tranny checked out by a tranny guy. He went through and checked the bands. Worked fine when we put it back in. Now after 15 miles its doing it again. Oil doesn't smell burnt but is black. Could it be the bands or something else. Started doing it when we backed it out of the garage but we took off the battery cable and it reset itself. We are stumped too. Spent 400 on engine and 150 on tranny check. What else could it be???

Not true it is a solenoid problem and most likely an easy fix. Po766 is the code correct?

Sounds like a 700r4 tranny thats usually what happens when they decide to quit you loose overdrive and reverse. About 900 to 1000$ to rebuild.

My 2006 chevy cobalt wont run in drive it dies but will run good in reverse

On some old Buicks and Oldsmobiles the overdrive would stick on. A bandaid cure for them was to unplug the cable under the hood, but you no longer had overdrive. I heard that changing the transmission fluid would clear that up. There's no overdrive in Reverse.. placing the car in 1st or 2nd gear could bypass o/d also if they don't use the same gear set. Once up-to-speed, place the car in Drive. This only works if the reason the car dies is it can't accelerate in that high a gear at such a slow speed.

Transmission makes whining noise in park and neutral. Wont shift into overdrive. And reverse wont work.

Time for a rebuild or a new tranny, this one won't last much longer, sounds like there are bearings and clutches failing or failed already.

4l60e going from 1st to 3rd and dont have overdrive any more

You most likely have a broken sunshell inside the transmission. They tend to go out when the transmission is shifted to drive when while still rolling in reverse.

Tranny wont shift

Sounds like you need a rebuild on your transmission. The overdrive is going out in the transmission system.

1999 Buick Regal hesitation while driving

most likely it is not actually a misfire it is the overdrive/TCC solenoid kicking on and off, it is a common GM transmission issue
