Question about 1998 Cadillac Catera
Light will go out after driving about 5 minutes, but stays on the next time the Catera is started up, with the same condition - battery light remains on
First have your alternator checked to see if the diode or regulator are getting weak. When they do that also have the battery tested for a dead cell. If after preforming these two test and nothing is found to be wrong, then it is most likely a computer error. when was the last time you had all the computer codings read and reset? If it's been awhile a good decoding cleanup my be the answer.

This is an 'intermittent bad connection'. It's probably in the main fuse box, maybe the main wire coming in from the battery. There is sometimes a 'fuse link' protecting that wire right after it leaves the battery so if it became shorted/grounded, you would not have a fire under the hood. I would recommend following out the wires I just described and check all wire terminals in the fuse block for tightness.

Yes, most likely a fault in the auto transmission, and the car has shut itself off to prevent further damage.

SOURCE: 1999 cadillac catera won't start
Starter or starter solenoid. Turn the key to start, put a test light on the ignition wire on the starter solenoid, if you have power then it's a bad starter.
