The car steering wheel shakes when driving over 40 mph and the check engine light came on and now its wont go away and the car is still shaking. Help!
The shaking may be a separated tire.
If the check engine light is on there will be a code. Have the computer scanned for trouble codes to see why the light is on.

Jeep has a tech service bulletin about the front calipers needing to be replaced in order to stop the vehicle from warping the front rotors.

You have a really bad misfire going on. i would not drive the car but if you get it towed you can get the engine codes read which will give you more of an idea on whats going on. Otherwise its just a guess.

Not sure what is causing it, but it sounds like you're running on 3 cyllinders. Check plugs, wires, timing . timing belt may have jumped, bad injector, low fuel pressure.
SOURCE: At 40 mph the car starts to shake. It last to 5o
I have this same car with exactly the same problem. Begins shaking at 40mph and stops shaking as soon as you let off the gas, but then begins again as soon as you press on the gas and smooths out as you get over 50. And the shaking is not felt through the steering wheel. Solution: Replace the transmission mounts. There are two of them, one on each side mounted on the frame right next to the shock strut. There is also a front and rear engine mount, but I replaced the two as described and shaking is gone.
