If you can't put the new part back in the exact same setting as the old part, you would need a scanner to "read" the signal from the sensor.

Look where your throttle cables etc are attached at throttle body, it should be at opposite end of the shaft that operates throttle plate in front of throttle body opening. Usually held on with Torx screws

Car starts will not accelerate, code reader says Code DTC 22 Throttle Position Low

Well code 22 means the signal coming from the TPS is too low. That usually means an open circuit between the sensor and the engine computer. The computer sends a 5 volt signal to the sensor and reads what comes back to the computer. Its possible the sensor is way out of adjustment, but more likely a broken wire or connector between the sensor and computer. You would need a scanner to "see" the data stream from the sensor to know for sure.

1992 K1500, code 22, clicking noise from throttle body, will not accelerate properly, changed TPS with no change

OBD Code 22 - Throttle Position Sensor Error (Signal Low)
The Throttle Position sensor signals the Engine Control Module as to the current position of the engine throttle valve. The current throttle valve opening is based on the driver's input from the gas pedal. The ECM uses the information from this sensor to help calculate fuel delivery and spark timing.

Symptoms:
* Extended cranking, possible no-start condition
* Lack of power
* Erratic transmission operation

Common Problems:
* A failed Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) would be the most common causes for code 22
* Testing the TPS circuit would involve checking voltage and ground from the ECM-5v is the normal reading between the ECM reference circuit and the ECM ground circuit at the TPS connector. Checking the TPS signal circuit to the ECM would involve monitoring the TPS signal on a scan tool while jumping the 5v reference and the signal circuits. The TPS reading should go from high when the circuit is "jumpered" to low when the jumper is removed.

What is the code 22 in my 1990 eighty eight olds

Code 22 is a Throttle Position trouble code.
Either the throttle position is not returning to home position, or more than likely the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is worn.

The throttle is at two positions most of the time. Either completely closed (not driven) or slightly open while driving. The slide wire will eventually become worn and give faulty readings to the computer, eventually causing the fault code.

The sensor is easy to replace and costs about $45.00 at Autozone or O'Reilly's.

Please let me know how I may assist further

Throttle position switch. how much for the part? is it easy to repllace?

This sensor sends the ECU an output signal which corresponds to the opening of the throttle valve. Using this output signal, the ECU precisely controls the air/fuel ratio during acceleration, deceleration and idling. The TP sensor and the throttle switch are combined as part of an assembly. The switch signal turns ON only when the throttle is opened to the idle position or at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) acceleration.

Fig. 5: Lift off the throttle position sensor
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the throttle sensor electrical harness.
  3. Place a matchmark on the throttle position sensor and throttle body mounting surface, so that during installation, the sensor can be properly aligned.
  4. Remove the 2 screws securing the throttle sensor to the throttle body assembly.
  5. Remove the throttle sensor by pulling it in the axial direction of the throttle shaft.
  6. Remove the throttle sensor O-ring and discard.
To install:
  1. Using a new throttle O-ring, install the throttle sensor, aligning the matchmarks. Install and hand-tighten the retainer screw.
  2. Connect the throttle sensor electrical harness.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope this help (remember rated and comment this). Good luck.
