I think there is more than a cracked radiator, maybe when you ran the engine after you lost the water from the "cracked radiator", you cracked the head of the engine. This (could) let water into the sump, the water in the oil is not a problem, just replace the oil. But the head might need to be replaced if it is beyond repair.

If you look at your radiator, there a big hose that comes out of the radiator on the left side. Follow it to engine and it will lead you to the thermostat. Hope this helps....

if you follow the top large hose from the radiator to the engine you will see that it ends ina kind of bubble shaped housing with several bolts that attach to the engine, your thermostat is inside this housing and all you have to do is remove the bolts slip off the housing and pull out the old thermostat and replace , make sure you use a gasket and some gasket silicone when you replace and be sure to tighten proerly but to not overtighten

Nissan Maxima. Can a water pump or thermostat cause mixing oil and water?

Question edited for clarity.

No to both. The water pump is chain driven and takes water from one side and pumps it out under pressure from the other. The thermostat is fully enclosed in a housing with no access to oil.

Oil in Coolant only comes from a failed head gasket where the oil and water channels are in close proximity and under combustion pressure of hundreds of pounds.

Water pumps are designed to pump water through the engine, radiator, and heating system. Water pumps will not cause oil to enter the cooling system.Oct 4, 2016

I have a 2000 nissan maxima gle 3.0 do i have to take out the engine to cjange the timong tensioner it has a rattling sound

Larry, normally engines do not have to be taken out to change timing tensioners, the bumper assy., A/C condenser, radiator, etc is removed to get access. Best if you get yourself a manual.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

How to fix water going into oil on 1995 nissan

You might have a cracked timing chain cover, blown head gasket, cracked block, or bad radiator if it has a built in oil cooler. It's hard to say without a cooling system pressure tester.

Overheating

If the problem is overheating on the highway, your prrboem is the radiator. Your engine produces more heat as it works under a load. sitting at an idle, it doesn't have to work. It's my opinion that the center rows of the radiator core are stopped up or severely restricted. With it using a plastic and aluminum radiator, I would only go with a new one. Out on the highway, it doesn't need the fans to cool the engine off, the movement of the car forces enough air through the radiator to keep the engine cool. Either that, or check for a badly restricted a/c condensor which will inhibit the air flow to the radiator. My choice would be the radiator.Without seeing it I can only give you my best guess. I work with a lot of Nissan's

I have a 2004 nissan maxima. Every time rev the

Air can get trapped in your heater core. Sometimes you can use a floor jack and raise the passenger side of the vehicle, start the car and leave it running until the coolant cycles and the fans come on then rev the engine a few times to 2500 - 3500 rpm and let up. If this won't push the air through then you may have to remove the upper heater hose while the engine is running and let the air out. Probably a little harder than it sounds. I believe there also may be a coolant bleeder at the top of the intake where the coolant flows to the radiator. Crack that open with the engine idling.
I hope this helps.

1995 Nissan Maxima Over heating, no heat blowing, water not moving

Simple thing to test first would be to pressure check the radiator cap. Next would be to check for combustion gases in the radiator indicating a leaking head gasket.  It is an aluminum head and iron block engine and there is a possibility that antifreeze anti corrosionpackage runs out due to over age then fails due to too long in the engine it results in galvanic corrosion at the head gasket-commonly resulting in a failed head gasket.  There are other engines that are vastly more prone to this than the maxima engine.  If there is a leaking head gasket the gases could rise to the top of the system and block the water flow into the heater.  Listen for gurgling sound in the heater.
