A few weeks ago i bought a 1994 Volkswagen Golf GL. I t ran fine for a few days, then the problems started: -leaking coolant -white smoke -rough idle -overheating The signs of a bad head gasket. So I got that changed, along with a new timing belt, piston, radiator, coolant system, and sensors.
Again, it ran good for a few days, then I parked at my house and heard some bubbling and splashing coming from the engine. The temperature was flashing, so i checked my engine. The coolant was boiling in its container. I let the car cool down, then i checked the engine again to find all of my coolant gone. I think these problems have something to do with the engine block. So i'm stuck at this point. What could the problem be? Should i stop wasting my money on this car, and get rid of it? or should i try to get it fixed?
when all the work was done was the water pump replaced. Water pumps on VW's have plastic impellers that break over time. If the water pump wasnt replaced then you may have blown the head gasket again.when all the work was done was the water pump replaced. Water pumps on VW's have plastic impellers that break over time. I'd replace the crank speed sensor .. you can get them on fleebay for 20$.. kind of a PITA to see but it's right under the oil filter. I have a 96 golf gl and have fixed just about every GD thing on the car, but i love it so i will keep fixing it.. This took care of the problem for me
i am having the same problem, thought it was ful pump, no go, I heard they had problms with the fuse box and wiring harness, my mechanic messed with mine a few days ago and it has not did it since, but I am looking at changing that. GL
