My 1999 ford explorer makes a squealing noise when I start it up until I push on gas or proceed to move...it will also occassionally make this squealing noise as I am driving..any Idea what this could

Recent repairs include: power steering well replaced, alternator belt replaced, all cvs boots replaced, u joint replaced. weird thing is my check engine light has been on for years now and now that a problem arises it goes off and has stayed off so far, this puzzles me because the codes that were listed were repaired and it was reset by mechanic, but would come back on within several days. Any help in this matter would be appreciiated..thanks

The squealing noise you describe is usually from a slipping belt. The belt tensioner may be faulty and not keeping the belt tight enough, the alternator is charging and putting a load on the belt when you first start the engine. If the belt squeaked constantly I would say the belt is glazed.

Yes, that sounds correct to be calibrated.and probably is what is causing your problem. Mass air flow sensors hardly ever go bad. They get dirty and set a code. Garages will try to sell you one when you can clean it with a throttle body cleaner. If you have your old one, clean it and put it back on, try it to see if it works better.

The most common problem on a Ford with these codes is deteriorated PCV hoses. Check the hoses from the PCV valve to the intake manifold. Pay special attention to the rubber elbows. They often crack on the inside curve and the crack is hard to see.

The intake manifold gaskets need replacement as well as the o-rings inside - if you call FORD they should be able to get you the correct parts.

On any car 1996 or newer after a repair is made the memory in the computer has to be cleared the light will not go away by itself. The proper way to clear this is with a scanner or code reader but if you dont have any other way unhooking the battery will force the computer to loose all its memory and start all over and the light will go away. If the light returns after a few days you still have a problim.

I have two questions 1:) my car roars when my foot is on gas pedal 2:) my car is start to squeal when turning. I have a 2001 ford explorer

Sounds like it may possibly be a drive belt problem. However, noises can be very difficult to diagnose when you have access to the vehicle. It is really hard to guess what a noise is when you cannot hear it. I weould recommend taking by the local repair shop and see if you can get one of the techs to listen to it and give you an opinion.

My 1999 jeep cherokee belt squeals very loud when giving it gas and chirps a little when idleing

If you get the squealing noise even when car is not running, and if noise get louder when you push the accelerator pedal, then it is the serpentine belt.

You may need to put the belt in tension, or to replace it.
