One of the door switches is not showing an open contact. Which sugnals the computer that a door is ajar. Try blowunyg comoressed air into every door sqitch including the rear hatch. Afterwards, spray each switch with WD-40. Good Luck.

The switch for one of the doors (located inside the door by latch) is sticking. I fixed mine by liberally spraying WD40 on (and beside into the door as well as possible) all the latches for all the doors, then opening and closing the doors numerous times. Don't forget all 3 latches on rear doors.

SOURCE: Ford 2003 Windstar Interior Floor Lights Stay On

to repair this problem you must remove floor lights from seats and check the circuit for either a short or a stuck switch use a multi tester this can get to be irritating as the short may be not directly behind switch could be along wiring that runs through car my suggestion if your not electrically proficient is take it to an electromechanic shop or simply unplug the light from socket to avoid draining the battery.

My 2003 ford excursion thinks there is a door open when all the doors including the rear hatch is closed leaving the running boards and interior lights on for several minutes. How can this be fixed?

For the door ajar--You can do a simple test of each door opening. Just take a small amount of masking or duct tape and make a small ball of tape. Stick this on each doorjam switch one or 2 at a time and if the lights work better you need to work on the bad jam switch. Just remember that the sequence of the engine running, shutting the engine off, then opening and closing the door must be repeated for each opening including the cargo doors. You need to duplicate the conditions for all the relays to trip to cause this problem.

The door ajar warning is what is keeping the lights on and the Battery saver in your truck is overriding the door ajar problem. I hope my solution is helpful, there are some plastic dividers in the doorjam switches and sometimes they break.

Just bought a used 2004 Excursion and the interior lights stay on until the battery wears down. would that be a bad roller switch for interior lights and dash lights?

Well, the lights on our 1998 Ford Taurus stay on for a 'limited' amount of time, say 20 minutes and automatically turn off, even if the door is left open or if the glove box light is left on due to a door left open.

I wonder if your body control computer is faulty in your 2004 Excursion?
Or, if the body control computer is fine, and it doesn't have this feature, then I would see if the door latch switch needs to have wd-40 sprayed on it.

We have a 1999 Ford Expeditioin that had this problem with the door open light going on when the door was actually closed. The tech sprayed wd-40 on the locking mechanism and the problem went away.

2000 Ford Excursion diesel when shut off interior and running board lights stay lit for long period of time or won't go out at all which in turn causes the cars battery to go dead.

You have a door ajar switch sticking in one of the doors. Start with the drivers door, open door and spray a liberal amount of WD40 into the latch on the side of the door. Then open and close the doors firmly several times. This usually unsticks them.

2003 Explorer door ajar light stay on when all doors are closed

I had this problem on my 2003 explorer and took WD40 and gave the lock mechanism a good dose where it meets the clasp on the door jam. Then open and close the doors a couple of times to get them working. They get gummed up and sometimes have a tendency to stick.
