This happened all of a sudden after brake pedal rubber washer broke and I noticed the brke lights on.When I got in up under the driver side floor and looked the pedal was missing a rubber stop on the pedal so I fixed it with a rubber washer, now the dash has gone nuts and there is a power drawdown.Where do I start?

have u tried under the dash a black box which is to alarm open it up there will be 2 pins there that u need to bridge with a flat screwdriver at the same time the blinkers should flash then press each of your remotes to programme them hope this helps
Your brake light switch is eith stuck or gone bad. It is located on the brake pedal and you can try to jiggle it to see if it will free itself and turn the lights off or you will need to replace it. It's a pretty easy job and relatively inexpensive. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

First off - 125K mi is nothing on that car (as long as you maintain it). The alternator is actually also the voltage regulator and this aspect of the alternator frequently fails before the actual alternator itself does and causes irregular voltage - so it makes sense you drove without the battery connected but you probably were having irregular power instead of a nice steady 14V (the other thing to know is that even if they do show 14V all the time the amperage may differ, both problems = change the alternator).
