The clusters in the 1985 Corvette are computer controlled, they are very prone to failure. I recommend you remove the cluster and send it in to be rebuilt. You can also get an exchange cluster for many suppliers of Corvette parts like Zips and others you can find on the internet. The cost was about $300.00 when I had mine done. Click HERE for one such repair center.

SOURCE: instrument panel cluster gauges and odometer has stopped working

I had all my analog instrument panel gauges stop working after they did the state emissions test. I found the proper fuse in the fuse block located under the hood. Simply unplugged the fuse, noticed it was still good, and plugged the same fuse (10A) back in and all the gauges started working again. Guess it needed a reset atfer they plugged in for the emissions.

SOURCE: Key off and gauges move

it's normal if it's what I think, fuel gauge goes to half on the right side and the farthest gauge to the left goes to half, if it's the case it's the security system that does that after about 10 or 15 minutes they both go back to zero, but as soon as you unlock the door and open it they go back to half until you start it....

SOURCE: speedometer not working all gauges work 700r4

Is the speed sensor that you are using the original one, or is it from the Camaro, or is it new for an 89 K1500?

The worm gear inside of the transmission on the output shaft that drives the speed sensor gear is not damaged?

No matter what speed sensor is installed the speedometer still reads the same?

Engine will start but shuts off right away, flickering lights of speedometer and other gauges

Could be the battery. Jump it with another car and see if it stops. Ford put the security in the Instrument panel for a few years. This flickering could be the reason in shuts down after a couple seconds.

Don't know how handy you may be but would seriously consider removing instrument cluster, and checking solder on circuit board. Just did mine, wasn't hard, maybe a couple of hours work. Nice small, pointed solder gun will be needed as well. They have had many weird problems with gauges, starting, running etc, all narrowed down to that printed circuit board, where the solder on the contact pins become corroded or cracked and cause some pretty weird stuff. At the very least, try removing dash enough to remove 4 screws holding cluster in, and pulling off connectors and putting them back on a couple of times, just in case it's just a dirty connection. If you decide you want to try it, and need more specific instructions, let me know, or even google , Dodge or Plymouth instrument cluster soldering, as there is some pictures and videos out there on the subject. Good Luck, and let me know how you make out.

For 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan, instrument clusters with light when ignition turn on, but there's no crank and no start. Battery just changed five months ago

I have a similar problem. Do you also notice the gauges on the instrument panel going out from time to time? (Have to slap the dashboard.) I have been told the start problem is related to a problem with the instrument panel (a control unit contained therein). I have found at times turning the key to the ON position for a few seconds (odometer lights stabilize) before moving to the START position sometimes helps.

Unfortunately, replacing the instrument cluster/control unit can cost up to $600-700. I am not a mechanic, but have inquired about this for my own Caravan. Good luck.

Gauges in the instrument panel (IPC) are electronically controlled by it - changing the battery may have damaged it. Try resetting the IPC by removing the negative battery cable for 15 minutes, and then reconnecting it. Otherwise, you may have to replace the IPC.

Our van jerks sometimes when going down the road, the gauges go up and down also. really weird! whats up?

sounds like you need the steering and suspension checked for the jerking while driving. And for the gauges i would have it checked at the dealer may need to replace the IPC (instrument panel cluster)

Instrument panel went dead

Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task). This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).

Electrical Problem?

For some reason you lost power. Start at the battery, checking connections, check connections on the engine block(grounds), connections at the starter. What is the repair history on the van? Is this problem intermittent? A faulty ignition switch could cause your problem.

Instrument Cluster Problem

I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had the same problems you describe.

I cured it by removing part of the dashboard and cleaning/checking all electrical connections.

Any black leads that connect to the metalwork .. they are earth wires. Check them for corrosion and as they are usually just held in place by a screw - undo that screw and retighten it. A 'bad earth' can cause the problems you describe.
