This is a failure of the "remote function actuation module". It is located under the rear deck next to the right rear speaker. The rear seat must be removed to access it along with removing the rear deck. It controls the trunk release, door locks, dome light, and reverse light. My remote trunk release stopped working along with the relase button on the dash along with the reverse lights failing at the same time. The module is over $150 so I would try to find a way to rewire the lights to work without the module.

SOURCE: 1998 chevy lumina brake lights intermittent.

This is a classic example of turn signal switch failure. On GM vehicles with a multi-function turn signal switch and combination stop/turn/tail lights (all rear lights are behind red colored lenses except for back-up lights) The brake light power is routed through the turn signal switch. This makes it possible for the right rear light to function as a stop light while the left rear turn signal flashes, and vice-versa. When the contacts fail to remain constant the brake lights, and turn signals can become intermittent. The proof that the brake light switch is functioning correctly is that the high center (cyclops) brake light functions properly. Wiring integrity is verified if you can prove that turn signals operate, but that can still be intermittent with this complaint, BUT if you use your hazard switch to turn on all the signals at once, you can verify wiring integrity. This is because the turn signal, and the brake light use the same circuit, and bulb filament in the rear lighting assembly. If any Hazard lights fail to function, check bulbs first, then retest. If all Hazrd light flash correctly and reliably, bulbs, sockets, and wiring have proven integrity, and the turn signal switch is the remaining component in the system which needs to be tested. Unfortunately, this switch requires disassembly of the steering column for service, testing or replacement. If you have never disassembled, and successfully reassembled a GM tilt steering column, I would reccommend professional assistance.

Is the 99 Chevy Lumina turn signal switch (not turn signal lever) compatible with one from a 99 grand prix or an 02 Malibu?

Hi, Under your dash,Driver side there is a relay switch you need to check. The part that clicks when you turn. This is in the left side kick panel in the Lumina. Check fuse panel as well.
Also check that all light bulbs are working (left and right). If one is out it will flash faster than normal. Replace bulb if not working...

What's your problem?back up lights on a 2002 chevy silverado 2500 HD doesn't work, i have checked the bulbs and fuses, they are good ,,, how do i fix them?

disconect the reverse light switch wires from the gearbox & bridge. If the lights come on it is a faulty switch.

99 chevy lumina wont start and the secruity light flashes

This is a pretty common occurence in GMs. Go to this link, try the 10 minute quick fix. If that doesn't work, you'll be looking at taking it to the dealer, or bypassing the security system. You can bypass it yourself. Go to this link for info and "do it yourself" options. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

95 Chevy lumina van, heat on won't turn off. A/c

Hi wodermom26,

Your Lumina APV is a clone of the Pontiac Transport and Oldsmobile APV's which all have identical Heater & A/C controls. The Heater & A/C controls usually wear out mechanically causing no control of temperature. This is a difficult repair and is best made by a dealers ASE Certified Technician. A/C may require re-charging and or possible replacement of the hoses which carry the refrigerant as they become porous and leak. Additionally, the Compressor and its Clutch may possibly require replacement.

The High beams are controlled by pushing the Turn Signal switch forward toward the Instrument panel and have a momentary "Flash to Pass" function by pulling the Turn Signal Lever upward toward the steering wheel and return to Low Beam upon release of the turn signal Lever. If neither function of the Beam selector lights the High Beams it is pssible that the Headlamp bulbs are burned out or open connections in the wiring harnesses. Do you have an owners manual for your Lumina? If so it has information regarding the Multi-Functions of the Turn Signal Lever.

The brake lights wont work. The brake light over

the break light wire on the lumina runs through the blinker switch or multifunction switch on the colum.. check there as well as at the tail light sockets. on the late 90s gm cars the sockets had a tendancy to rot away... use a test light at the brake light wire in the trunk and have a friend apply the break. if there is power then may have to get new tail lights. or replacement bulbs.

2002 Mercury Grand Marquis. Backup lights won't work

Does pushing the trunk release button make the back up lights illuminate? Has the car been serviced or wrecked before this problem? Have you been golfing and put clubs in the huge trunk. Either the ground wire for the trunk lid devices is bad or the trunk release wire (purple/orange) and the reverse lamps wire (purple/white) have been reversed.
