The drain hoses get clogged behind the kick panels. Pull back the kick panel and reach in grab the hose and pull it out from the hole in the lower panel. Then I just cut off the end and watch the mud and water flow out then reinstall. There is also one in the rear wheel wells as well for the back drains.
There is no reason to remove the headliner unless its broke.

The sun roof has nylon gears that pulls the roof back and forward when activated. There is one on both sides of the sunroof track in the rear corners of the roof track housing. Unfortunately they are not replaceable by themselves and must be purchased as a unit for the whole roof track system. The cost of the replacement and labor to have it installed (if you can find someone to do it) is up to $1500 so isn't very practical to replace based on the value of the car itself. Better off to just work the broken piece out and manually put roof back in place in shut position and not use anymore, at least that was my experience with the one my daughter owns.

Dear cz50001: there are only a few things that you, a weekend warrior can do to diagnose and/or fix the problem on your car.
Unfortunately the newer cars get, the more complex they get.
Unfortunately, your car is one which falls in the more complex category. Your car is designed with a "BODY CONTROL MODULE". This little gem gets input from nearly every electrical component in the car including the sunroof. In terms of what you can do to check it out: The fuse box inside the car has roughly 24 fuses positioned vertically 12x12. The fuse located at the lower left side of the box is a 10A "red in color" is for the sunroof. Remove it and look through it to see if it has been burned through the center. If it has, replace it and try the sun roof. If the fuse blows again, you have a short and it would be best left to a professional.
There is another set of circumstances which can occur that will render the sunroof inoperable. If the battery is disconnected or if the sunroof motor had been disconnected, the sunroof will stop operating. To reset the sunroof memory, with the key in the on position, push and hold the sunroof tilt switch in the forward (up) position until the sunroof is fully vented (tilted up) position. It should at that point operate normally. Should those two suggestions not solve your problem, it requires either a dealership with a specialized tool called CONSULT-11 to communicate with the BCM. There are some specialty shops such as mine equipped to deal with your car as well. However, most can not address this type of problem without this diagnostic tool. Good luck.

The motor is accessed after removing the interior roof light console. I have to warn you that Freelander sunroofs have a lot of problems. To change the motor, I think you will have to remove the roof lining as well with all that entails. The Land Rover Workshop manual has all the detail whereas the Haynes manual does not.
