I have a 2001 Cadillac deville and the temp gauge only raises only when i'm in drive and i'm accelerating, then I have to pull over and let it cool. The fans come in normally, I have changed the thermostat, water pump, and I have tried getting air out. I really need some advice from anywhere

my husband did everything that everyone else did that had this overheating problem. It was so weird that my engine cooled at a light and heated up going down the road. I have a north star 4.6 engine and this is natorious for happening. my check engine light also came on and so I had a diagnostics done which told me my #1 injector wasn't firing , car ran like **** as well. After putting in a new water pump and plugs,ect. and realized injector was good a friend told him we could have a blown head gasket. So just to see if this was the problem I went to buy a bottle of glassbeads and the auto parts guy told us to purchase a bottle of BARS STOP LEAK BLOCK SEALER NOT RADIATOR BUT BLOCK SEALER $31.99 . He followed the directions and we waited 24 hrs. before driving it. What ever the problem was has stopped my car runs like brand new and I am loving it again. no over heating no injector problem, runs great.......I hope this helps. I know its probly a temperary fix but its a fix and now we know what the problem was. SASSY

does the temp gauge rise higher than normal ? the radiATOR COOLING FAN MAY NOT BE CUTTING IN . No heat at idle would also suggest the thermostat isn't opening correctly , so two things to check out

After driving my 1997 cadillac deville until temp reached aprox 212 ...I let it set and cool to about 124 ...opened the overflow tank and the water bubbled down. was the cooling system purging?

Depending on where you live in the country, 212 isn't to hot. Your high temp fans don't come on until 225-230. And what you described sounds normal as there is pressure in the system at 124.

There where many problems with the gauges in this year, pull the cluster out and send it in to be rebuilt.

Gas pedal sticking when trying to accelerate 2001 cadallic deville

Try checking the throttle plate in the throttlebody. Pull off air intake hose and see if there is a lot of carbon buildup on plate and bore. clean with throttle body cleaner CRC makes a good cleaner that won't hurt your sensors.

this cna be normal. The Northstar engine has design issues that manifest as overheating problems, but mainly under hard accelleration...
What you describe sounds like normal fan cycling...are the fans going on and off?

How to replace the thermostat on 2001cadillac deville

4.6 Northstar V8. It is located on the rear of engine (driver side) in front. It is 1n the the waterpump housing cover. Remove airbox and intake tube and bottom radiator hose. 2 bolts(believe 10mm) on thermo housing. These systems are a lil finiky about air pockets....so fill slowly and let run at idle until operating temp and let cool and chk level.....fill as needed and repeat if needed.

Engine revs high after driving a while in the morning

Sounds like the theromstatic is sticking, making the temp to run higher than normal. The temp should be around 185 to 190 tops. Also check the flues on the radiator, make sure it is recirculation well once the theroms. open up. I not sur if this has a clutch fan or and elect.fan. But make sure it is pulling air thru the radiator well, to help to keep the motor cool.

Coolant temp. raising. no coolant loss.

first with the car off and cool squeeze bottom radiator hose with your hand then do the top,this burps any air out of the system,of course have the cap open,if this doesnt solve the problem its your radiator cores are block as you speed up its trying to force coolant thru a blocked core and temperature rises,you can pull your raidiator and have it cored at a radiator shop,cheeper than buying new
