The AC plug on my Block heater has broken wires at the plug so I can not use, Does anybody have a safe fix for this short of replaceing the whole wireing harness like the dealer wanted to sell me and install for about $300.00? I was thinking of splicing on a new plug and then sealing it up?

So, how do I replace the plug safely?
I know I can replace the pug but isn't keeping the elements out an issue? And is there a particular type and place to buy a replacement plug? I don't want to get shocked sometime.
I can find plugs but none seem to be for outdoor usage?
have complete heater / ac wiring harness for my 65 malibu but am having troube find where wire from heater plug in or pick up power
Bought and outdoor cord and cut off the male end leaving about 18" of cord attached. I then spliced the new section of cord onto the block heater cord after cutting the bad part off. I used electrical tape and heat shrink tubing over all the splices to make a clean water tight connection, still going strong after about 3 years of use.
