If the shifter wont move with brake pedal pushed ck , shift interlock, brake pedal switch, and key interlock. if the shifter moves and trans does nothing ck cable underhood at trans for operation if working yes you have trans problem . ck fluid to see level or if burnt fluid will smell real bad if low trans wont work right.and a trans can fail with out setting any engine or trans codes.so ck engine light wont come on. there is some times a release by the shifter a small cover you pull off and stick a key or small screw driver in slot and shifter will move.

Just a couple of things to check if you haven't compare the smell and apearance of the tranmission oil to so new, if it looks dark and smell burned you probably have a bad transmision, clutches or burned up. Does it whine or make any noise? a stopped up filter will do this. also is it full when warm on the dip tick runniing in park?

Your problem is the speed sensor. The VSS (vehicle speed sensor)

is located on the right side of the transaxle, near where the right side axle shaft

connects to. To access this part is pretty tricky, if you are inexperienced. There

is an aluminum foil covered shield around the wiring connector. You will need to

remove the shield to gain access. You may even have a damaged wiring

connector, that is causing the problem due to the close proximity of this part to

the catalytic converter. If you want to purchase this part from the Ford dealer,

ask the parts counter person for the "basic" part number 9E731. Hope this helps.

1999 ford Taurus shifting hard pulled over and would not go into gear. There is a metal line at the front left that is loose and dripping fluid..could the fix be that simple?

No,this problems are very hard to fixed. The inter chamber of the car transmission gears shift and parts are cracks or damages very badly to caused to have oil leakages to the car frame or to the ground.Must have the professional transmission specialist to fixed transmission parts and changes gears and parts.Tries Auto mechanics places that have transmission specialist like AMGO or PEPBOY for example.

My automatic transmission wont shift into any gear

Check to make sure you have correct fluid in the transmission. Check to make sure you are not leaking any fluid as well. Your shifter cable may be broken. If it is, it wouldn't be able to shift into gear.

1999 Ford Taurus Wagon stays in 1st gear

Most Ford Taurus wagons have a transmission that generally goes first. that's the main reason. Just something to do with the way they are built. The only advice that I could offer is either replace the tranny or just not run the a/c. Usually it's just the motor working twice as hard running the a/c and that in turn puts the computer into the phase of lower gears for the transmission. there in being the problem.
