SOURCE: 1996 Buick Regal Sport - Leaking Plastic Elbow

YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE BELT TENSIONER.
IF YOU BUY THE CARTER BELT TENSIONER AT ADVANCED AUTO, IT COMES WITH: A PLASTIC ELBOW WITH O RINGS, TENSIONER, PULLEY, NEW O RING WHERE THE BELT TENSIONER MATES TO THE ENGINE BLOCK AND NEW O RINGS FOR THE INLET AND OUTLET CONNECTIONS ON THE BELT TENSIONER TO THE HEATER CORE (COST $72).
IF YOU DON'T REPLACE ALL THE ABOVE O RINGS THEN YOU CAN EXPECT MORE LEAKS.
IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE PLASTIC ELBOW YOU MUST REMOVE THE BELT TENSIONER ANYWAY. IF THE BELT HAS SEVERE CRACKS REPLACE IT ALSO.
STEPS:
-REMOVE BELT
-DISCONNECT BATTERY
-DRAIN ANTIFREEZ AND DISCARD
-REMOVE ALTERNATOR
-REMOVE BELT TENSIONER
-REMOVE PLASTIC ELBOW (DO NOT ALLOW BROKEN PIECES PLASTIC OR DIRT TO GET INSIDE THE ENGINE WATER CAVITIES.
-CLEAN ALL CONNECTION WHERE O RING WILL MATE.
-TO REASSEMBLE GO IN REVERS ORDER
-REFILL THE RADIATOR WITH COOLENT 50% MIX USE THE 5 YR GUARANTEE TYPE.
-MAKE SURE THE COOLENT RESERVIOR IS
FILLED TO THE HOT LEVEL MARK.
-RUN THE ENGINE UNTILE IT IT REACHES THE 1/4 % TEMP MARK ON THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE THEN TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND OPEN THE BLEED SCREW ON TOP OF THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING.
ALLOW THE AIR TO EVACUATE, YOU WILL SEE COOLENT COME OUT THEN CLOSE THE BLEED SCREW.
-BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU OPEN THE RADIATOR TO REFILL TO THE TOP.
-REPEAT THIS ONE MORE TIME.
-RUN THE ENGINE AND KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE' IF THE TEMPERATURE GOES BEYOND THE 1/2% MARK, SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE QUICKLEY AND LET THE ENGINE COOL.
THIS MAY TAKE HOURS TO COOL DOWN BUT THE COOLING SYSTEM WILL TURN FROM PRESSURIZED TO VACUUM AND DRAW COOLENT FROM THE RESERVOIR TO REFILL THE SYSTEM.
YOU WILL NOTICE THE LEVEL DROP IN THE RESERVOIR .

My overheating gage is going up but my car is not overheating in my 2004 Buick Lesabre

High high does the gauge go up? mid way, 3/4 way? That would be normal. The thermostat opening temperature is about 195-205 degrees. If you are not getting heat from the heater then you may have a plugged heater hose or a plugged heater core. To check the heater system, while the engine is running and warmed up, touch the heater hoses to see if they get hot. If they are hot to the touch then water is flowing through the heater. Also make sure that you bleed the cooling system correctly . There should be 2 air bleed ports in the cooling system. One by the t-stat housing and the other above the water pump area.

I keep adding water no signs off leaks water pump is noisy but not leaking could its still be the pump?

if the water pump is noisy it should be replaced anyways.it could be the pump that is leaking and not noticable.the system should be pressure tested and inspected to see were a leak could be.

My 2000 buick lesabre is running hotter than usual....looking at the motor i see water leaking from the top of the water pump, right around the intake

An intake gasket leak is a very common problem on the engine in your car, get it replaced and go from there. Be sure to check/change your oil. If it is milky looking, then the gasket is leaking internally also. Hope this helps, TJ

Leaking water over the water pump

Your going to have to get a closer look at that leak and identify if it's the top of the water pump or from a hose somewhere spraying that way.

How hard is it to change the water pump on my 1991 Buick Regal 3.8 engine. It is not leaking but car keeps getting hot, I have changed the radiator

The pump is not that hard to change but if you haven't tried a new thermostat yet then i would suggest that you try that first,it is the most common cause of overheating problems, next being the rad fan it's self not coming on either because of a bad motor or a temperature sensor failure or a defective relay.Let me know what you have eliminated and we can go on from there.

Check your heater hoses. It sounds like your leak is a hose.
