Car smells like gas and is hard to start

The car smells like gas in and out of it only after running or trying to be started. It won't start the first time I try to start it the car , but always fires up the second time I try to start it. Once it is started it runs good and doesn't die,but stills smells like its leaking gas.

My Pontiac G5 Gt coupe did the same thing. There was a recall on the gas line and it was replaced.

WONT WHRIL OVER TO CRANK UP AND SMELLS GAS

[ Start over ]

The engine won't turn over at all ?

Or it just won't start ?

You have to know what the main issue is
& how to diagnose,we can only guess
up to a point.

Also-- what about how it has been starting &
running for the last several months?

What about preventative maintenance--spark
plugs,O2 Sensors,fuel filter,fuel pressure,stored
codes, fuel trim when it did run.

Those are things a professional checks, hopefully
on a road test with a scan tool & a helper along for
the ride.

Car vibration and fuel like smell

I would guess that one or more of the spark plugs, or spark plug (high tension leads) have failed. That would cause the engine to run uneven , off balance, and create fuel vapours due to unburned fuel.

Worse case scenario it could be leak on fuel injectors or fuel line, if possible have some turn engine over with hood open, if you can see or smell fresh fuel, get professional assistance as this is a extreme fire hazard.

As i was driving my car it stopped abruptly , u didn't run out of gas was not over heating it won't start back up what can it be

Check your catalytic convertor, when it gets clogged it will stop your car from running. One sign of this as you are driving and it smells like raw eggs.

Will not start appears no gas

The most common reason a car will crank but not start and you smell gas is you flooded it. Too much gas to the engine causes too rich a fuel mixture and the fuel won't ignite.Click this link below for more troubleshooting :---http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2012/01/car-will-not-start-and-smells-like-gas.html

I have 2004 PT Cruiser that the battery went dead. Replaced the battery but the car won't turn over. In fact I can smell gas after trying to start the car. Also noticed a leak underneath the right fro

You shouldn't have any gas smells, maybe a little if the engine were cranking over without starting. But your car is not even cranking, right? Or will it crank and not start? In that case you might smell a little gas, so next step would be to check for spark.

The leak on front passenger side: if that is where the front of the engine is, check carefully your water pump for leaking (then it is bad) and also check all hose connections there for leaks.

Sudden no-start conditions are usually loss of either spark or gas to the cylinders. These are the first things to check when it won't start.

2000 nissan maxima won't fire when trying to start. it turns over but won't fire. it started once and ran but won't start again

sounds like it might be flooded. Try and remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse block that is just in front of your left knee. While it is out crank the car and see if it wants to start and hold down the gas pedal all the way and then relase it and back and forth and once you get it to run have the fuse ready in your hand and in front of the spot to install it. and then keep the rpm's up with the gas pedal until the smoke clears out behind the car.
